A first half Ivar Ingimarsson strike was enough to secure a victory for Reading against Blackpool.

Blackpool had to play the majority of the game with ten men as on loan midfielder Lee Hendrie was sent off for a high challenge on Marek Matejovsky.

Stephen Hunt also saw his penalty saved late on by Blackpool goalkeeper Paul Rachubka as Chris Armstrong was brought down.

Worryingly for the Royals, Marcus Hahnemann was taken off with 20 minutes to go due to a calf injury.

Brynjar Gunnarsson and Matejovsky both started the game in the place of James Harper and Kalifa Cisse as Reading looked to continue their good form after wins against Coventry City and Barnsley.

With both teams cancelling themselves out, Reading finally broke the deadlock. A James Henry free kick created something of a scrap in the penalty area; it then fell to the edge of the area where Ingimarsson was on hand to lash home.

Then referee Mr Singh had no hesitation in sending off Hendrie for his dangerous tackle on Matejovsky. Although the former Villa man and his teammates were less than pleased.

Reading soon dominated possession but no outcome. The only highlight in a poor second half was Rachubka making a cracking save to deny Gunnarsson from 20 yards out.

Hahnemann was taken off after an attempted kick up field resulted in the American pulling his calf. He was replaced by Adam Federici to make his first ever first appearance in the Championship.

Blackpool’s Gary Taylor-Fletcher did have a goal disallowed for offside and from then the Seasider's looked like they could get back into this game.

As the visitors pushed, the visiting boss Simon Grayson was sent to the stand as he argued furiously at the referee’s decision not to award his side a penalty after an apparent handball against Stephen Hunt.

The home side received a penalty after Armstrong’s fine run was brought to an end. Hunt wrestled the ball off Shane Long and stepped up.

The Irishman stepped up and saw his penalty saved by Rachubka to his right hand side.
