A random drunken chat on Friday night with a couple of Wolves fans in the heart of our city after a well fuelled trip to the comedy club cheered me up after a bad few weeks for the Toon. It re-introduced me to everything I love about the game itself and the club that we adore.  Steve Trunks and John Rawles, although Somerset based are die hard wolves who by all accounts follow their team here there and everywhere.  The two of them, along with myself sat long into the early hours of Saturday morning talking pure football.  Swapping stories, discussing our teams, laughing at our rivals and going right at it in a way that only football fans can.  Three guys who before this drunken bump were not even aware that one and other existed.  Brought together initially by an unlit cigarette but ultimately by football.  Nothing else in the world can do this.  They loved hearing a local view of the black and whites as I did of the Wolves.  This is football.  Such a special game, the way that each and every fan of each and every club can just connect. Steve and John added that little bit extra to what was such an important weekend.

The match as important for them as it was for us and for me, although a win wouldn’t have saved wolves it would have been a massive help to their cause.  As far as we were concerned I saw this game as make or break.  Win and we’ll survive.  Lose and the struggle begins.

Thankfully our boys went out and really put Wolves to bed.  Great bottle, great graft and a few cracking performances.  It was perhaps a little easier than I was expecting.  A great weekend all round with the mackems getting guffed and falling below us in the table.  They have eventually run out of straws to clutch.

I’m pretty sure that Steve and John travelled back to Somerset on a little bit of a downer but I think they’ll be ok.  If these lads represent all the Wolves following I do hope they stay up.  Just wish Mick Mcarthy would stay off the fucking telly.
