For a man who has been there and done it all, the most frightening gig of them all is playing in front of your “own”, especially when they heckle you, but Midge could hold his own and was more than a match for anyone with a grumble, no matter how minor it was.

Not just a talented singer but a quick witted guy with a sense of humour, you need that with Glasgow crowds!

Midge Ure has spanned many decades and has had a very successful career as both a solo artist and with Ultravox, I have been lucky enough to see him a few times on his solo tours and once when he re-united with Ultravox.

Slick, The Rich Kids, Visage, Thin Lizzy and his work with Band-Aid and Live 8, all add up to one really talented guy who has been rewarded for his years in music with an OBE and has twice been awarded an Ivor Novello Award with Bob Geldof for co-writing Do They Know It’s Christmas.

Each time you see Midge on a solo tour you are treated to a more stripped back acoustic performance of all his hits and personal favourite songs over his career and they still sound fantastic.

Many folk may not realise that Midge has had so many great songs until they hear them on the radio or at one of his gigs, even the cover versions that Midge has sang over the years sound just as good on this kind of set.

Many songs may have been sung or written by Midge over the years but he still refuses to sing Slik’s biggest hit,” Forever and Ever” but he does tease the crowd with a few bars on the guitar before reminding them of every other hit that followed, all in good humour.

The hits flowed out like the ripples on the water and Midge shone like a star in the night sky.

“ Fade to Grey, No Regrets, Lament, Dancing with Tears in my Eyes, If I Was, Breathe, Loves Great Adventure and of course their biggest hit Vienna”, only some of the hits that Midge got through on the night.

A class act, who has stood the test of time and will do so forever and ever!
