MORE EGGS IN THE MAGPIES’ NEST

Sometime ago, I wrote a blog about a group coming together to discuss, argue, debate in detail, analyse,  about Newcastle United Football Club. We all like doing that, whether in a pub, cafe, on a bus, or via all these social network sites.

Well, the Magpies’ Nest has grown, from a very small, dedicated band, and now passed the 2,OOO member mark. Obviously, if you get 2 NUFC in a room, there is not much chance they will agree on who exactly was our worst player, who was our best, who should be sold, and who should stay.

But that is the beauty of the crack on the site. Virtual Mag talk – and by the way, some of them actually meet up, end up drinking together before a match, and of course, continue to the banter, no doubt.

Their members, as I indicated in a previous piece, seem to land from everywhere, not just Tyneside, Durham, or Northumberland. They fly in via the Nest facebook system from as far away as Australia, Africa, and most countries beginning with an A. And that is just a start!

Some also fly in, literally, as well, from Denmark to Deutschland, Norway to Netherlands, and so on. They meet up with the Nest hosts in toon.

What brings them all together is obvious. Dedicated NUFC. I particularly like the membership from abroad, the non-exiles, who follow our club. Definitely not GloryHunters!

Apart from endless opinion-swopping on the Nest site itself, they continue with quiz stuff, memory lane guessing, and a whole range of stuff that brings in the members to throw their strip, or oar, in.

Even the dawn of the close season does not interrupt activity. If anything, it increases it, as there is no fixture coming up, so, hence, total Mag banter about what happened last season, what will happen in the close season, and what will happen next season.

In short, a footy fix for Mags. I know there are more important things in life than Newcastle United -  err, will get back on that one – but congratulations to the people who created the forum. Great forum, great crack, and supporting the greatest club you could ever support.  In my humble and biased opinion, that is.

Cheers to the mob who now number over 2,000. And to use a phrase that normally I canna stand, Keep the Faith.  Our fans always have, despite some very, very testing times. The Mags Nest do.

Ps my only grievance with their quizmasters is that if i hoy into one of the quiz plots, I never win. A fix, I reckon! I still believe I know more about NUFC history and overall facts than that lot....as if!!
