Reading v Newcastle (3pm)

Saturday 29th September

Referee - Andre Marriner

Alan Pardew's side return to action this coming Saturday as they make the journey to the Madejski Stadium to face Reading. This is a non-televised fixture and Newcastle have solf out their 1,700 allocation.

As expected, all trains from Kings Cross to Newcastle after the match are designated as dry, meaning that the consumption or possession of alcohol is an offence.

The last "wet" one is the 18.30 and the ban also applies to the 19.07 Grand Central service to mackemland.

Cheick Tiote both started the cup game against Manchester United in midweek so they should make the starting line up comfortable.

Ryan Taylor remains a long-term absentee but the news is better for Danny Simpson and Tim Krul, who should both be back in training any time now - although not in time to feature in this game.

Of course, Alan Pardew will be making his return to the side that he once formerly managed. Pardew spent a total of four years at Reading, gaining promotion but failing to get his side into the Premier League. Also, Pardew was the one who added current manager Brian McDermott to the backroom staff whilehe was in charge there.

The Royals have collected just one point from their opening quartet of Premier League fixtures, beginning their top-flight return by drawing 1-1 at home to Stoke City.

A 4-2 loss at Chelsea was then followed by a 1-3 home defeat by Spurs and a single goal reverse at West Brom last Saturday. Ex-Mag Danny Guthrie has appeared in all of those games and netted once, at Stamford Bridge.
Ahead of our visit to Berkshire, Brian McDermott's side travelled to QPR for a League Cup Third Round tie on Wednesday night, returning with a 3-2 win and no new injury concerns.

In all fixtures United have played at Reading, both at the Madejski and at Elm Park, Newcastle have:

Won 2

Drawn 3

Lost 3
