Manchester United v Newcastle (7:45)

Newcastle begin their League Cup campaign with a tricky trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. This match is the Third Round of the newly named Capital One Cup.

The Fourth Round draw will take place on Sky following the full time whistle in our game.

With the approval of NUFC (or so the Football League Press Office claim) the home side opted not to discount their Premier League prices, meaning that away fans were asked to part with £45 (plus booking fee) for what is effectively a midweek reserve game live on TV.

The pricing of this game has been a talking point as Newcastle will be backed by a smaller following than they would have hoped. Also, Manchester United supporters are boycotting the game to such an extent that some sections of the ground will remain closed.

Ryan Taylor, Danny Simpson and Tim Krul all remain unavailable. Fabricio Coloccini is expected to return to the squad after injury, while Cheick Tiote will feature after his substitute appearance against Norwich City.

The Newcastle boss will be available to prowl the touchline after completing his two game ban.

It remains to be seen how strong a side Fergie selects for this tie with Spurs visiting Old Trafford three days later, but both Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young missed Sunday's 2-1 win at Anfield because of injury

Some reports have claimed that Wayne Rooney will play some part in this game after a speedy recovery from his gash in his leg. However, I do not believe that Rooney will even be on the bench for this fixture.
