I sent a blog to Toon Talk earlier this week about the potentially dangerous time of having a birthday on August 29th when you follow the NUFC.

Well, the said day itself, Wednesday, passed off well for me, apart from somebody rumour-mongering that we were about to sell Cabaye, Tiote, or even Ben Arfa, to one of the so-called Big Clubs in North London. I reassured the bloke who mentioned this to me that we would just tell them to buggar off - looking back, I might have sounded a tiny bit unconvincing in my attempt to reassure him. And me!

Aside from nice but cheeky cards from my 2 younger NUFC daughters  - the theme seemed to involve being an old git - and a first ever birthday message from Vietnam, via Mag daughter number 3, the gift bag turned out well too. The United Present Bag has looked canny, no major disasters inside it.

The Greeks arrived in town the day after my birthday, and nearly brought some gifts. Slight panic broke out for me over the penalty incident with Tim Krul, but all in all, it made for a happy night after. The same evening brought news of the League Cup draw - I dont know what is called now - and that was not a particularly welcome present, I have to admit. The Manure away. Given the fact that I went there for a tie in the same competition in the 70s, saw us lose 7-2, and add in that I would love to just EVEN win that Cup, I was a bit knocked back.

Never mind though, Friday bounced in my NUFC birthday aftermath with the Europa League Draw.  I had checked out and Biffa's detailed analysis, but for once, his site confused me. It was probably, or definitely, not Biffa to blame, but all that talk of Pot 1 involved with Pot 3, and Pot 4 looking at Pot 2, totally baffled me. I should stress that I failed Maths O Level.  Anyway, I decided to wait and see, and out came Bruges, Bordeaux, and Martimo. The Mags in Europe, eh.

Of course, Friday had another angle in my thinking post-birthday. That daft, stupid transfer deadline. Just a touch of nerves around, but by end of play, relief. None of our main players had gone, though we all know that we probably should have picked up some cover.

To finish this NUFC birthday zone blog, part of my general present bag involves a ticket for Villa today. Given my history, I am not going to tempt fate, but I just feel that I might be able to look back after those Brummie gits, who mocked the relegation of the Mags not too long ago, get a beating. In the Cathedral.

MONDAY UPDATE! I told Mr Wraith that the last para might give me egg on my chin.........he will not remove it, as he is a right git. So. All I can say is that we will get Villa at playtime down there. Hands off to Hatem B for his brilliant goal, though. Not a bad birthday week as far as I am concerned. Seen far, far, worse ones!!!
