Newcastle kick off their new Premier League campaign against Spurs on Saturday at St James'.

After a mixed pre-season, Alan Pardew's men go looking to replicate the successes of last season's campaign. New signings Amalftano, Bigirimana and Anita will all experience the St James' Park atmosphere for the first time, so let's make them happy that they signed for the Toon.

Spurs narrowly won the race to fourth last season, missing out on a Champions League place through Chelsea's Champions League success. Newly appointed Andre Villas Boas will be looking to get his new Spurs side off to a winning start.

However, injury doubts loom over Newcastle as a few first team players have been left doubtful for the fixture. Club captain, Fabricio Coloccini was doubtful, however it has emerged that he should be fit. Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye and Sammy Ameobi have been labelled doubtful.

This leaves Alan Pardew with various options regarding the starting line-up. Will any of the new signings start? Speculation will build up, but not until the team sheet is released will we know.

Last season's success for Newcastle United definitely surprised the football  world. Realistic targets will be set by the board and coaching staff. My personal targets would be to have a decent run in the Europa League and finish in Europe again next season. Hopefully, Newcastle will have the strength in depth and team spirit to achieve their personal goals.

I'm sure you are all with me when I say that I am very glad that the Premier League's opening weekend is almost upon us, and I'm very glad to be writing for Toon Talk again.

Here we go again; there will be ups and downs, but we wouldn't have it any other way! Here's to the new Premier League season!
