Dont panic. Pappiss has not lost the proudest shirt to wear in football. Rather, a new Number 9 is signing for Newcastle United., officially unveiled in Toon on Thursday, and ready to play on Saturday against Spurs. It is a bar, in Stowell Street, at the site of the old Stage Door nightclub, for those of you old enough to have tried to dance in that place. Dancing and singing could well be on the agenda before kick-off time against Glory, Glory, Tottenham 'Otspur. Aye, we have a return to a proper NUFC watering hole on the horizon.

At the Thursday launch, Supermac will be calling by, and the roll call of our Number Nines is pretty impressive. Hard to choose your favourites really in the list who support this venture. Am opting for the Mighty Wyn - Aint Seen Nothing Like The Mighty Wyn. No offence to Mal obviously, or all the others who have worn that shirt with pride, representing the NUFC nation. Just that, as a very small bairn, I saw his Leap, and his Aerial Power which brought me the only trophy I have seen in the home of real football passion. The Fairs Cup, eh. As a young lad of 11, Mr Wyn Davies certainly had some impact on foreign defences - and on me!

Anyway, I digress. This is beginning to sound like an advert. But it aint. It is more a recognition that, at last, all Mags have a canny cheap venue, again, after all these years, to prepare for our visits to the stadium, known as St James's Park, by the way. And a hostelry where all crack is confined to our club. Takes me back to the Magpie, Barrack Road, all those years ago!

The new Number 9 on the block will certainly rock and roll. And any rolling will not take that long up to the Cathedral on the Hill, as it is only around the corner! Dress code on Saturdays is apparently obligatory. Any form of NUFC top and you get in. That will dae for me.

And you can get it without wearing a Number 9 on your shirt as well. Just as well for me. I gave mine to a Spanish barowner, and one of my mates out there says he still has it behind his cafe/bar. And tells the locals and foreign tourists what it means to wear that top with that number. Suppose I must have done my job well on that occasion!

So. I know where I am gannin afore the flowery, pretty Spurs pop into town. To the Number 9 bar! And take in the pleasant, relaxing atmosphere, complete with canopes, Arsenal-style discussions of a middle class nature, things like if!!!

PS    to those who prefer to avoid raucous, but peaceful NUFC entertainment, I would suggest they dont gan.
