If Brentford donít beat Barnsley away, we will be in the playoffs with a draw on Saturday. We will have 73 and only Millwall and Preston can reach that figure but are 8 and 11 goals behind us. Mind you Preston play Burton at home last match!😧

I agree. Brentford are a threat if we lose to milwall. But if we cant at least pick up two draws from last two games we dont deserve playoffs

If (when) Fulham beat the Mackems Friday night then Villa cannot go up - will they fields a slightly weakened team at home to Derby ? Derby win that and the pressure is on for both sides.

Villa are 3 points behind Fulham.
Fulham win and Villa win and they're still 3 points behind Fulham with 3 points to play for.

It's if Cardiff win that they can't go up, but that's at the same time as Villa's game.

On the predictor I have us finishing 6th behind Derby.
I have Cardiff missing out on 2nd and therefore getting us in the playoffs.

Reckon Villa will win the playoffs [sad]

Why do people keep posting that? Automatic promotion is highly unlikely for Villa, but regardless of the Fulham result, it is not impossible. Therefore Villa will kick off on Saturday knowing that they need 3 points to have a chance and possibly looking to boost their GD as well in case Fulham and Cardiff do slip up. On that basis, I don't see them playing anything other than their best available team.

I don't see why anyone would play a weakened team, momentum is gigantic at this stage of the season

We're in a priviliged position where we could actually lose both two games and still qualify, if other results go our way that is. Obviously we can't take that for granted though.

I expect Brentford to win both games and finish on 74 points. The Bees are unfortunate not to be finishing above the 80 points mark, they were very unlucky in the first couple of months of the season when they were battering teams and coming away empty handed.

We also can look back on plenty of squandered points. I've calculated that if we had matched the results that Sunderland and Burton got that we didn't then we would now be on 97 points, and smashing the league with Wolves.

Surely if we'd matched the results of Sunderland and Burton we'd be heading to League 1

I agree the Brentford result will be important. Them not winning pretty much gets us in the play-offs with a draw.

Devils advocate but should they win then it does add a little bit of pressure. I dont think that pressure is a bad thing though as we had it the last 2 games and turned up. It's another opportunity to relish in a big game against a good team. It will be a big game regardless of course but a Brentford defeat does make it a bit easier for us.

I think we'll beat Millwall anyway. They will have to come at us at some point. They will try and bully us but if we cope with that i think we will pick them off.

I really think that the Boro will be in the Prem next season.
Beating Millwall will go a way towards this and I feel we will have to beat Fulham to get there.

Let's hope that on Saturday we avoid the dodgy brothers and get a decent ref.

I dont think we could ask for a better manager to take us through a play off run just depends on how the players react to it.

"Surely if we'd matched the results of Sunderland and Burton we'd be heading to League 1"

The key was in the phrase "that we didn't". Both took 4 points from Norwich, both beat Fulham at home, both drew at Ashton Gate. Sunderland drew at Molineux and Elland Rd. etc.

Brentford are Evens for win at Barnsley, but what ever we will know by 5pm about their result.

I still want Fulham out of the playoffs so I will cheering them on Friday night. That leaves Cardiff at Hull at 3pm - which to me is Evens for Cardiff win and to me is the critical game for the chase for automatic spot.

How about this scenario

Brentford win both there games 4-0
Barnsley and hull.

We Draw both ours 3-3,
Millwall & Ipswich

Derby get beat 2-1 off villa but beat Barnsley on 3-1 on the last day

It would leave all 3 on 74 pts, +20GD 69 for 49 Against.

anyone know what would happen if this happened?

I've heard they draw straws at the world cup after going on results against each other.

"The league comprises 24 teams. Over the course of a season, which runs annually from August to the following May, each team plays twice against the others in the league, once at 'home' and once 'away', resulting in each team competing in 46 games in total. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The teams are ranked in the league table by points gained, then goal difference, then goals scored and then their head-to-head record for that season. In the event that two or more teams finish the season equal in all these respects, teams are separated by alphabetical order, unless a promotion, relegation or play-off place (see below) is at stake, when the teams are separated by a play-off game, though this improbable situation has never arisen in all the years the rule has existed"

It's a great question Vena and it has never happened yet.
The Head to Head sees Derby ahead of Boro on GD after a win each and ahead of Brentford on Points after a win and a draw, but Boro level with Brentford after 2 draws.

So, if it were a mini league of head to heads Derby would be 5th and us 6th, but if they strictly take head to heads, we would be level with Brentford after our two draws.

It points to another play off to enter the play-offs as 6th, but given the schedule that would mean us or Brentford having another match between the 6th and the 11th ahead of a gruelling play off sequence at the end of 46 matches.

I would hope the authorities would look at the round robin head to head and rightfully put us 6th ahead of Brentford, but hands up who thinks that would happen for us!
