Marvin Who?

When he was signed from Sparta Rotterdam last summer, Gareth Southgate stated, “we have signed an exciting young player.”

Really? Well it’s now April and we are really going to have to take your word for it.

He has made one start since joining for £3.2million and that was against Yeovil Town in the League Cup back in August, he scored in this game. Since then he has made 15 appearances for the Boro, all of them as a substitute and added another goal away to Wolves in the F.A. Cup.

Why hasn’t he been more involved? This doesn’t add up from my point of view.

There has to be an underlying issue with this situation because with the predicament we find ourselves in, surely a winger with pace and an eye for goal could have helped our fortunes and should have been given the chance to make an impact.

I recently watched his career goals and he has the ability to get into the right positions, even if it is in the Dutch League. His goal against Ajax last season was a very good finish as was his finish at Wolves.

So did Gareth Southgate sign him without really knowing much about him? Is the scouting network at the club to blame?  Has Marvin failed to settle in the area and this has affected his training and improvement since arriving at the club.

After another defeat away to Bolton at the weekend, we are running out of games and so it appears ideas at the same time. So now is the time to gamble, to make changes and to go for a very attacking approach.

We need to be taking the game to both Hull City and Fulham; we need to win these games. Or as Gareth Southgate has stated then we are as good as relegated.

We should not forget Ajax and Feyernoord wanted to sign him last summer and for a club with a very tight transfer budget, £3.2million is a large proportion of our kitty. Marvin has to be given a chance.

SEVEN games remain, give him a start in the next two games, he could be the difference between a chance of surviving or not taking the risks and actually been relegated.

It could be the master stroke which keeps the Boro up! Go on Gareth give Marvin a chance from the start, what is the worst that can happen?
