The season has been a real struggle, no two ways about that and maybe we can provide a little light relief with the fanzine clocking up 600 editions this weekend.

It has taken 31 years to amass so many issues and I wonder just how many people have penned articles, or drawings over that time. I say penned and of course back in the early days many of the contributions were written in biro. How times have changed. Think back to 1988 and the idea that everyone would have their on home computers sounded berserk. Fanzines were designed to be put in a pocket but they would have to jostle for space with mobile phones. What imagine being able to write and talk to each other on a little screen that could sit in your hand. And don’t even mention the internet and world wide web.

This issue of the fanzine contains a few memories from the guys that have contributed this season. Peter Mackin pulls together a pub guide every issue, highlighting one of the pre match boozers in town. He has also written a paragraph about one of his earlier memories as a Boro fan. Funnily enough in the fanzine another writer remembers this same match. Well, it was very unusual indeed.

One of my earliest Ayresome Park memories is from the 26th September 1970.
Arriving a few minutes late for the Division Two league match v QPR, we were advised by the gateman the Boro were already 2-0 down.
My Dad wondered if we should instead go and watch my Uncle Laurence who played Saturday League for Shell Teesport, but decided to stick with the lads.
We were rewarded with a stunning 6-2 win, a hat-trick for big John Hickton, two for Hugh McIlmoyle and one for Derrick Downing, in front of a crowd of 16,788.
Happy days.

Peter Mackin

Fly Me To The Moon will be on sale around the ground on Saturday for £1.50 – a steal! Issue 600 – 1988-2019 not out.
