Gone in sixty seconds… That's all it took for 16 lucky diners to sign up for a unique behind-bars dining experience.

Incarcerated will see a one-off pop-up eatery take over the historic cells at Middlesbrough Town Hall next month.

The captive audience will enjoy a gourmet seven-course tasting menu in the atmospheric Victorian setting courtesy of chef Sean Wilkson and Maitre D' Paul Kay.

Town Hall cellThe Secret Menu is a fusion of secret supper clubs and pop-up restaurants - a relaxed, informal, dining experience centred on first class food without the formalities of fine dining.

The aim is to bring like-minded diners together, who may be absolute strangers, in a relaxed environment to enjoy an unknown menu at an unknown location.

Paul said he'd been bowled over by the response when bookings opened on Friday evening for the event on November 22.

He said: "Within a minute we'd got more than 70 people vying for the 16 places, so it was first come, first served.

"They've all confirmed and paid now which is fantastic - and I can promise them they won't be disappointed.

"The venue is like no other in Middlesbrough, and they'll be well looked after while they're Incarcerated."

Multi award-winning chef Sean has over 25 years' experience which have seen him head up restaurants in the UK, Austria, France and Greece.

His cooking style blends classic cuisine with modern styles alongside his own innovative, scientific, molecular gastronomy approach, taking diners on a stimulating culinary odyssey.

Cllr Mieka Smiles, Middlesbrough Council's Executive member for Culture and Communities, said: "We knew the Secret Menu would capture the imagination, but the response has been amazing.

"The Town Hall is a terrific venue, and there's something particularly special about the courtroom and police cells which have been restored to their former glory

"These privileged prisoners can look forward to a meal they'll never forget."
