We are going back to 2016 for this article of how a pub-fuelled pledge has led to a complete all-consuming Boro-obsession taking hold. And in case you are wondering, Nick's unbeaten Boro run continues to this day.

In the summer of 1992 I can remember talking to a good friend in the Fairfield Pub, having missed the unforgettable game at Molineux which got us promoted to the inaugural Premiership as a result of my brother’s wedding and saying “I am going to try to not miss many games next season as it should be a great year.”

More than 24 years later and what has become an addiction, the Palace game should be league game 1,000 on the bounce.

How I have got here I have no idea.  Illnesses (travelling to games laid in the back of a car), operations (how I got through the pain barrier on the train to Leicester 4 days after a hernia op), weddings and family occasions have nearly ended the run and if I had a quid for every person who has threatened to get me kidnapped before a game, I would be a rich man.

Everybody knows of the highs and lows of supporting the Boro and in that 24 years I have experienced it all.  Picking just one league game as my most memorable would be impossible.

I have had a number of different travelling companions over the years starting with my late dad and now travelling with a great group of lads who are almost as daft as me.

Having celebrated the 250, 500 and 750 milestones, I did wonder whether I would get to the magical 1,000 and I feel quite proud to do what I guess very few, if indeed any Boro fans have ever done, although there will be many who have witnessed more games over their lifetimes.

It is commonly known that you can change most things in life, but not your favourite team.  It’s in the blood.

Thanks to all of the friends I have made over the years.

UTB and here’s hoping that we pick up the 3 points today.
