United kicked off December with a Carling Cup clash against Blackburn at home, the 3rd of December saw Tevez slot away 4 goals in the 8 goal thriller. United went into half time 2 goals to Blackburn’s zero. The first coming from Tevez in the 36th minute and the second from Nani in the 40th minute. Blackburn kicked the second half off with a goal from substitute McCarthy 3 minutes into the second half. Tevez responded scoring from the penalty spot and the slotted United’s 4th goal in 3 minutes later. Blackburn once again responded with a goal from Derbyshire in the 84th minute and a second from McCarthy in added time. Tevez secured the game with a 5th for United and his fourth 2 minutes later in the 94th minute of the game. United progressed to the next round of the Carling Cup against Derby away on the 7th of January. Tevez also putting himself back in contention for first team football.
United 5 - 3 Blackburn (Win)

The weekend saw United hosting Sunderland only days after Roy Keane resigned as manager of Sunderland. Vidic provided the breakthrough for United in extra time in the second half and saw Rooney the only man booked with a yellow. Sunderland nearly leaving Old Trafford with a point though United securing all three points in the dying minutes.
United 1 - 0 Sunderland (Win)

The 10th of December saw United hosting Aalborg in the Champions League this mid week clash was to determine the group winner with Villarreal and United tied n points. Tevez opened the scoring for United in the 3rd minute, scoring the fastest goal in the Champions League this season. Jacobsen rained on United’s parade by equalising in the 32nd minute and then Aalborg went ahead through Curth in the first half injury time. United though managed to save face and recover the one point through Rooney in the 52nd minute. Villarreal were defeated by United’s Scottish counterparts Celtic meaning that United got the all important away leg in the first leg of the next Champions League game. Qualification means the teams have a month and a half’s break until they restart the Champions league in late February.
United 2 - 2 Aab Aalborg (Draw)

The weekend of the 13th saw United travelled to London to meet Tottenham, a match which United disappointingly dropping 2 points after Tottenham shut up the goal and frustrated United time and time again. The 0 - 0 score line meant that United lost a valuable advantage as the big 4 clubs all went without a win.
