The draw over the weekend has promoted numerous comments from a number of united players. United seem to be suffering under the injuries of Scholes, Carrick and Hargreaves, all who play in the United midfield and play vital roles within the squad. Despite the recent form of the likes of Giggs, Anderson and most especially Darren Fletcher, United seem to lack the midfield strength that was shown last season. Giggs blamed the strength of the Everton team, with strong tackles and a sheer determination not to lose to United. At the same time Patrice Evra is struggling to see how United lost with such a strong and dominating first half against Everton.

Fletcher has had a dream start to the season scoring the goal against Everton over the weekend and also giving united vital points at the start of the season, without which United would be placed even lower in the Premier League. Owen Hargreaves who only recently moved to United has struggled to play games, due to injury. This has sparked rumours of a possible exit from Old Trafford; Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled this out. He moved to United at the beginning of last season for £18million, no united player or supporter can forget his vital contribution to the team’s performance last season.

Yesterday saw the announcement by both Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo that they are fully committed to a future at United. Tevez who still has yet to sign a permanent contract at United after reports that his agents are asking too high a valuation for the striker and Ronaldo who has been a hotter topic than our summer with links to Real Madrid and the layer wishing to leave United. His performance was under par on Saturday against Everton, I expect even he will agree with that, though he is a dedicated footballer who will always try and improve on his last performance. Ferguson has always stood right near Ronaldo and supported the star.

Johnny Evans who has started to see some first team action is one of the wonders of United’s young starlets, who has already proved himself an adequate replacement to both Ferdinand and Vidic the heart of the united defence. Rafael the 18 year old right back has also shown his potential and, to me, mirrors the attacking style and hard work of Patrice Evra. The youngster has already shown his talents playing both in the Champions League and the Premier League this season.

Rodrigo Possebon, another Brazilian youngster, has finally returned to the reserves team after being injured in United’s match against Middlesbrough earlier this season. Solskjaer has expressed his delight at having the youngster return to the squad, especially after he scored against Manchester City for the United Reserves last week.

While United struggle for a solid midfield combination, Giggs, Anderson and Fletcher are going to have to keep the game controlled from the central midfield if United are to dominate the season after slipping into 6place, 2 points behind Aston Villa, with one game in hand. They now lie 8 points behind table leaders Liverpool who have surprised all football supporters by winning against Chelsea at home with a superb goal.
