Points have been a rarity in the main squad though what can the Reserve team pull off this season. Often looked at as the back up team or a place for the youngsters to get some experience with the big boys. Though with things as they are in recent years spectator numbers to these games have been dwindling.

Ole Gunner Solskjaer has been trying to rally fans in and around Marston’s Arena, the home of the United reserves. Ole has talked to various key supporter groups in a great attempt to draw a bigger crowd to see the team play. With the likes of Danny Welbeck, Ben Foster and Darron Gibson taking on Robbie Fowler and Julio Santa Cruz, tonight’s game was definitely a sight not to be missed.

Stewart and Macheda are two of the United youngsters who are just joining the reserve squad after concluding their stint in the Youth team. Ole has had a reasonable preseason warm up to the new season, and his strikers have been slotting away the goals, with 3 goals against Birmingham though unfortunately the defence allowed the visitors to score 3 goals to draw the game.

This game against Blackburn; United went for a 4-5-1 formation leaving Welbeck up front on his own. Welbeck joined United a little over a year ago now and the young 17 year old striker has been making some promising advances in the reserves team. A player born and bred Manchester and now thoroughly United, though he is needing a fair bit of experience a young pacy attacker with a bucketful of skills; he is definitely a favourite of mine and I expect will be seeing first team games before Ferguson retires in the next couple of years.

The reserve team are definitely a team to watch, a bounty of talent as the former player Ole tries to prove his management abilities in the United camp.

United 0 - 0 Blackburn
