Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup by Reading after Shane Long's header sent them out in extra time at Anfield tonight.

New signing Maxi Rodriguez was in the crowd and the home side sorely missed his creativity in a first half dominated by the visitors, and yet the Reds went in 1-0 up at half-time thanks to a freak own goal from former Red Stephen Wright.

But Reading pulled level thanks to Gylfi Sigurdsson's composed penalty after Yossi Benayoun had connected with Long in the area in the dying moments of the second half.
Then there was more drama as penalties loomed- Brynjar Gunnarsson checked inside, nutmegged Emaliano Insua, who was again troubled by Jobi McAnuff, and crossed for Long to head the winner.
McAnuff almost scored a wonder goal after taking on the entire Liverpool backline, Simon Church missed a glorious headed chance and Gregor Rasiak was also guilty of a glaring miss.
And there was a further blow for the home side as both Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard were substituted injured.
Benayoun missed out on a one-on-one against Adam Federici and David N'Gog flashed two shots wide in Liverpool's best chances.
But it was to no avail and leaves Rafa Benitez under more pressure than ever, with just the league and the Europa league now to compete for.
