Liverpool's terrible month continues as they were defeated 2-1 by Arsenal at Anfield earlier today, Dirk Kuyt's goal ruled out by a Glen Johnson own goal and another Anfield strike from Andrey Arshavin.

Liverpool now sit in seventh in the Premiership table and are 13 points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

After the exit from the Champions League the Reds recent troubles only declined further at the final whistle as sections of the crowd booed a performance that simply wasn't good enough to trump Arsene Wenger's side.
Arshavin's four goals last season contributed to one of the games of the season and he struck again just before the hour to win the game.
A long pass from Francesc Fabregas was instantly controlled by the Russian who finished powerfully above Pepe Reina.
Earlier Samir Nasri crossed into the Liverpool area and after a touch from Jamie Carragher, Glen Johnson put the ball past Reina to bring the Gunners back nito the game.
Earlier Kuyt had put the home side in front- tapping home after Manuel Almunia had dropped Fabio Aurelio's free-kick.
Rafa Benitez said it was down to confidence that the visitors were victorious however they had more possession, corners and efforts at goal.
Steven Gerrard was appealing for a penalty under a dubious looking challenge by William Gallas, Almunia saved from Torres and Nasri's long range effort went wide over the course of the match- but it is Arsenal who push the two top closer than ever and leave Benitez under increasing pressure.
