Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is refusing to believe that tonight's Champions League tie with Lyon is make or break for him- with the possibility of the Reds dropping out at the group stage.

Though not mathematically out a defeat to the French side would effectively rule the Anfield club out of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.

And coupled with recent sketchy league form the pressure is mounting on Benitez.

But the Spaniard told the gathered media: "The players are strong enough for this challenge- the mentality is good, and they are determined to win.

"I'm very pleased to be here and I wish to be here for a long time," he said.

But preperations are hardly idela with a host of first team members ruled out or doubtful.

Fernando Torres should play, but Steven Gerrard is out with a groin problem.

Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel, Fabio Aurelio, Martin Kelly and Albert Reira are out with David N'Gog and Daniel Agger doubts.

And Benitez will not be any happier to see both Agger and Skrtel called up for Denmark and Slovenia respectively for the coming internationals
