Liverpool trounced Hull City 6-1 at Anfield today to announce their arrival in the league's top three for the first time this season- with Fernando Torres starring with a hat-trick.

Ryan Babel's brace and a Steven Gerrad cross-shot made Geovanni's strike forgettable after the former Man City midfielder had pulled the visitors level.

Just over ten minutes had gone when Torres opened his account for the evening, Albert Reira crossing low for El Nino to turn, make space and finish.

But the lead lasted only three minutes as the Reds were set back by Hull, Venegoor of Hesselink on his league debut nodding down for Geovanni to place the ball past Pepe Reina.

However the Spanish striker was on hand to restore Liverpool's lead before half-time, set up by Yossi Benayoun's through ball to grab his and his side's second.

The four remaining goals came steadily over the second half, firstly Torres completed his hat-trick by turning Ibrahima Sonko and finishing past Boaz Myhill.

Hull could offer little in response, and Steven Gerrard was next to capitalise, his cross-cum-shot flew into the top corner.

Substitute Ryan Babel then enjoyed some freedom as he got on the end of a Dirk Kuyt cross, then deflected Reira's shot three minutes later.
