Liverpool are up to third after winning their fourth Premier League game in six – despite West Ham twice fighting back to draw level.

Fernando Torres scored twice as Liverpool held off a brave fightback from the Hammers.

Torres put the Reds in front in the 19th minute with a superb solo goal but Alessandro Diamanti levelled from the penalty spot on his debut.

Dirk Kuyt restored Liverpool's lead in the 40th minute but Carlton Cole levelled a minute before the interval.

It looked like that’s the way it would stay but Torres – man of the match not just for his goals but for the way he led the line - settled a brilliant game when he headed home from close range in the 75th minute.
