Liverpool hit Burnley for four as Yossi Benayoun hit an Anfield hat-trick, the Reds securing a comfortable win that showed their progression from last season.

Dirk Kuyt also got himself on the scoresheet as the Reds defeated Burnley as opposed to recording one of the strugglnig draws that pegged back their title dreams last season.

Benayoun looked particularly lively all game and his constant movement allowed the Israeli to pop up and score three times- and having another harshly dissalowed for offside.

There were two goals in each half for the Reds but it took just under half an hour for Liverpool to open the scoring.

Both sides had otherwise been quiet although the Reds were enjoying the Lions' share of possession.

Glen Johnson went off on a run that Reds fans are becoming all to familiar with and found Benayoun inside.

He cut inside his marker and finished acutely into the far corner passed Brian Jensen, who was not to have a good day.

The second goal was a little before the half-way point, Benayoun fired a shot at Jensen which had power but was relatively straightforward for the 'keeper.

But the Dane could only parry straight to Juyt who gratefully swept home the rebound.

Martin Paterson did force Pepe Reina to concede one corner from range but the Reds were dominant.

Steven Gerrard found more of the ball in the second half and a great run mixed with a little luck saw him round the 'keeper but hit the post from a tight angle.

He then made another run into the box and this time squared for Benayoun to grab Liverpool's third.

And the victory was sealed beyond doubt eight minutes from time as Liverpool were being frustrated from the edge of the box, eventually Andriy Voronin clipping a through ball to Benayoun to finish past the static Jensen.

The win leaves Liverpool in 5th on nine points still behind Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham.
