Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez heads into Sunday's Premiership season opener with several key players injury doubts.

Daniel Agger is out, Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel may recover in time but Steven Gerrard is the biggest worry for the Spaniard.

Gerrard withdrew from the England squad to play Holland earlier this week, and Benitez admits Gerrard is a risk.

He told Sky: "I am not sure about Steven- I was really pleased he was pulled out of the England squad as a precaution.

"With our game on the Sunday, then maybe Steven will have a chance, if it was on Saturday it would be more difficult," the former Valencia boss went on.

For the home side Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson are all out but their could be debuts for Sebastien Bassong and Peter Crouch- resulting in a possible former Reds partnership up front with Robbie Keane.
