After reading this story on the ESPN site, I really can't blame Thakor for walking at the end of 2014 season. We really are a total disgrace... I'm so angry!!!

A cricket debate, again.

I have read the articles and listened to PFW and I am not sure that it is as plain as it seems. I can't believe that PFW is still in a role and I am all for criticising him for his negative influence on cricketing matters at fortress Grace Road, but It doesn't make sense. That could be levelled at most things down there so I wouldn't be surprised but:

1) What did LCCC seek to achieve? They were bottom by a distance and so what difference does being adrift by 50 points or 40 points mean. He was underperforming as a result and so don't see the benefit.

2) Thakor is likely to be a target for Notts and the rest. Why hasten his departure?

3) If Thakor goes to Notts there is a chance he will play for England. LCCC would get revenue as a result. Knackering him up would jeopardise it.

I would expect that that a number of experts were consulted along with Shiv and PFW. They would have discussed a way to play through the injury, the merits of playing and the effects of playing. Shiv would have agreed and the medical people would have agreed.

There isn't a prayer that PFW and LCCC would have defied medical advice and Shiv's wishes and forced him to play. If they did they would be looking at workplace harrassment and ultimately if his injury has become worse, they could be looking at loss of earnings, career losses etc...to the potential tune of millions. LCCC's wouldn't get insurance etc... the ramifications would be massive.

That said this is LCCC and PFW.

As predicted, Thakor walks and will surely be followed by at least three promising others this summer. CEO gone too, exceptionally dangerous times for LCCC.

The whole place is a disgrace.
It comes to something when Derbys is viewed as a step further to a promising players career.
In addition, I have been told Cobb is going Northants and Buck is going Lancs.
The whole philosophy at Grace Road is built around failure. Retaining and continuing to use coaches that are proven to be failures, players that are proving to be failures and excuse after excuse.

Today after another shambles of a performance, Ben smith was on the radio talking about the uncertainty that the contract situation was having on performance. Whilst in a small way this may be the case, when you lose games with a side week in week out, season in season out irrespective of the contract situations, you cannot even mention it as a reason/excuse as it makes them appear even more of a shambles than they are.

Season in season out the same poor coaches coach the same poor players without an idea on how to improve performance either short term or long term.

Not long ago the hierarchy at the club had seen fit to have a playing staff that involved 16 players out of contract this season. What level of management competency would allow such a quantity of players to have contracts expire at the same time? It really does defy belief.

To add to the inability at the top contract wise, they continually offer contracts that provide no stability club wise or player wise and leaves you vulnerable to player departures of anyone who has a decent season. There is no basis for a stable squad and no basis for a plan to improve the performance on the pitch and off it.

By offering only one or two year deals means that you cant build a team that may bring you success in 2 years time.

Angus Robson has signed a new 1 year deal. He will be here next season. He has a reasonable season and he leaves. He has a good season and he leaves. Has a poor season and he stays. Yippee we are happy. We only retain players who don't do that well.

Jigar Naik has had a disgraceful season. He gets a new contract. This year he has had the best chance ever to do well and whilst he has come back off an injury last year his record this year is one of the reasons we are dreadful.

We need to visibly say we are planning for 2 or 3 years time. Give Robson a 3 or 4 year deal. You then know he will be the basis of a side for that period. As it stands we are continually looking for his replacement rather than a player to compliment him or build an opening partnership. Give Ned (poor season) a 3 year, Cobb a 3 year, OBrien 3 year.

It is really no wonder that Shiv, Cobb and Buck want out, no wins, clueless management and a team that is ready to be broken up season in season out with no foresight and no sense of changing the defeatist mentality.

You make a good point about the nonsense of the contrating/ retention policy. This is just one element of the shambles that is LCCC - but a crucial issue.

I can't imagine anyone doing a worse job than the management/ committee I doubt if they press ganged from the Cricketers Pub random members of the public that they could do any worse.

The whole culture is one of defeat and embedded failure at all levels.

Until they get the leadership right they won't change the culture - and if it doesn't change we are headed for tragedy - the loss of first class cricket from Leicestershire.

To add misery to misery Buck leaves.

First of all congratulations to Nathan Buck. For him it is a great opportunity in joining a test ground county and to benefit from being surrounded by better players and obviously better coaches.

A no brainer for Buck!

However, even a feeble set of officers as Leicestershire's should now be held to account along with the disastrous coaching staff and of course the so called director of cricket. This is not specifically about the Buck departure but about failure mounted upon failure.... and lack of anyone to take responsiblity.

I'm waiting for the next letter from LCC wich says something along the lines of although we continue to lose any players with any ability we have compensated for this with a fine ice cream trolley and the installation of state of the art window frames.

If they don't get any decent replacements in the writings on the wall.

Bizarrely, the second team are going for. Clean sweep.

McKay and Cosgrove would be a start.

Having said all this, we have improved on last year.

Essex day 1. No belief, no application, no fight. Body language awful.

Sacrifice of wickets, poor shot selection.

Naik 2 full tosses in first over. Foster waited for bad balls and they came a plenty. Whilst he is the main spinner you can forget success. 26 overs per wicket at 80+ is god awful. 18 wickets in a full season is embarrassing. PFW describing him as the best off spinner in the country shows how bad his judgement is.

Smith to notts and Cobb to northants on a 4 year deal...supposedly.

I'm puzzling on your comment on how we have improved on last season. Is this improvement cricket related or have I missed something regarding catering or maybe ground security issues - maybe the club is improving at keeping people away from Grace Road?

The performance against Essex is one of a team that doesn't want to know - but clearly wants to playas little cricket as possible at this stage of the season.

The departure of Cobb was widely anticipated and removes one of the few remaining bits of talent left at the club.

It's taken a real effort to reduce the club to the rubble that it is.

So sad.

saw something yesterday that really sums club up,freckingham injured so does not take field, yet first break in play he limps on with drinks, the third time he did this you could see it was making it worse but he still carried till innings closed. am sure you would not see this in park cricket.what the club should have been doing is giving him treatment or letting him rest.also noticed not one of the coaching staff on balcony watching play. you can understand if it is true that clint macay is no longer interested in signing for us.

Think it is a case that they expect to lose and wait for it. They have such a losing mentality that they cant shake it off.

Saw that the club tweeted that on the 17th the "third day of the Essex game" the club tweeted that the team were working hard in the nets. WTF. Why after the Essex game would you tweet that? Pathetic

Chief Exec thinks we'll be fine, the coaches are full of excuses. The whole club is rotten to the core

Tennant and PFW have spent years in charge of a deteriorating team with no guidance, leadership and ability. You would think that at some point they would fall on their sword. There cant be a professional coach in world wide sport with a record as bad as PFW.

To be at a state where Derbys and Northants are definitely a step forward shows how low we are. I cannot understand why any player would opt to sign a contract and decline a move else where. It has to be demoralising to week in week out lose game after game and turn up knowing you will lose. For a players sanity he has to move.

Don't care who they sign, it will not change until Tennant and PFW leave. They may be great blokes and/or great coaches but they have been responsible over a long period and if they are good coaches then their message isn't getting across and it is time for a change.

They need to look at themselves and consider which players have really progressed under their coaching.
Smith?
Cobb?
Buck?
Naik?
Wyatt?
Gurney?
Thakor?

The above crop all showed early talent and were the future. Thakor after injury has not featured, Wyatt? Naik is an embarrassment, Buck after bursting on the scene went backwards until this year but that was after a winter down under. Smith always flatters to deceive, Gurney leaves and all of a sudden is twice the player, Cobb has not really kicked. Time will tell on Robson or whether Ned was a one season wonder.

With David Smith as Chief Exec and Neil Davidson as Chairman, this would not have been allowed to carry on.

Clear the decks and do it NOW

I'm reluctant to personalise criticism but it needs to be said that the bowling coaching at Grace Road is very, very poor - and i could quote a number of specific instances where promising young bowlers have regressed rather than developed.

The long term effect is that we are incapable of taking 20 wickets in a game - so winning is a very unlikely option.

AS for leadership - the professional leadership is so steeped in failure that it is ludicrous to just change peoples' job titles and carry on as before.

As for elected officers - well I think the views expressed on here before is about right - that no matter how far the county falls they have neither the will or wherewithal to do anything to change things.

It really is an astonishing set up. While every other professional sports outfit is ultimately judged by results - these guys don't seem to accept that the criteria of outcomes to matches applies to them.
