LCCC Memberships 2014

I'm Gareth Dakin and I'm currently working on a new project as a neutral with LCCC on their memberships for 2014.

The group thought it was massively important that we try and get the previous, existing, and future members view of the current membership and it's benefits, and what they feel about the club itself and it's direction.

I'm a Leicester local and have been all my life, I'm also a massive sports fan and a big follower of all three main sports and our teams, so I have my view and how I see the membership but we want as many views and opinions as possible to not only benefit our club and team but more importantly benefit the 'punters'.

It's a great opportunity to voice any opinions as I have a direct link to the club and people who matter for a short space of time. With your help we can come up with a plan that may include changing the membership plan as it exists and in turn making our club that bit better.

So please feel free to offer up anything, good points, bad points, what is good about the current membership? What would you like to see changed or introduced? If you decided not to renew a membership why? and everything in between.

Cheers,

Gareth

Hi Gareth thanks for dropping by.

I'll try and be positive and give my personal views.

I used to be a member and as such had a greater link and affiliation to the club. I cannot remember when i was last a member but the cost became prohibitive. It used to be a case where value wise it was silly not to be a member. If you only went a few times you lost out but you had the opportunity to make it be of value and now in the grand scheme of things that is no longer the case. Gone are the days therefore where I could pop down for an hour or two and i am sure that there must be a number in a similar position.

At the cost and availability of people, I would assume that memberships are directed to corporate or retired people. I would be interested in seeing how the core membership figures are made up, between corporate/retired individuals and working people.

I object to the patronising 'great value for money' plastered across membership details. Does anyone actually down there really believe that the performances of the team give anything like great value for money? I would suggest that half the price would not represent value for money.

For a number of years LCCC have clung to the coat tails of t20 success when detailing membership. Standard membership doesn't include it does in essence, you are paying 115 for 3 days of half hearted losing cricket and YB40 experimental teams that more often than not have also been half hearted and in both forms are at the foot of the table.

I always get annoyed when in any sport the value for money is gauged against what other teams charge. At LCFC it is spouted that 32 is value for money because that is what F*****t and Derby charge. So they say the same and the cartel is formed. Forget that I cannot afford to go because as long as other clubs overcharge it is fine.

If i was a member still I would object to YB40 matches which sometimes are basically trial matches with winning being second place to blooding youngsters being used to drive up the cost.

Value for money? Performance dictates value for money and that doesn't apply to the team, coaches or board.

For a number of years we have performed as a minor county. We have an awful team, truly desperate coaches and a seemingly clueless committee. Everyone can see it yet nothing gets done and until there is a drastic change of emphasis in coaching and off field I would have thought that membership would remain pointless and very frustrating.

Players at LCCC have a future elsewhere or are at their lowest point of the career. None have a long term interest at the county. Everyone knows that the better youngsters will leave and we will get left with rejects having 1 final go at proving they are not good enough. We therefore have a group of players that do not have a future at LCCC unless they are average.

For me to become a member again.

Lower prices,
Whitticase gone
Tennant gone
Direction from the top
better players retained and not lost to other teams
Improvement in players
Improvement in performance rather than the 'drifting' that we have.
Team desire and postive mentality
And competiveness.

I am sure that most of the above is nothing new to you and I am sure that there will be excuses from LCCC to justify the costs but the above are my reasons for being a former member.

All the best Gareth with your project.

Regards

Thank you Glennyfox!

It's important that we as a group receive this feedback, as a massive Leicester City fan I can completely understand your point of view and above all respect that we as fans need to feel like we're receiving our 'value for money', and that can sometimes revolve around team effort, which as a Leicester fan of all sports is something we are not used to getting all the time.

It's not likely that our group can come in and re-shape the board or standard of players unfortunately, but we can offer our and your voice when it comes to pricing, benefits (or lack of) and other suggestions that fans would appreciate as members of the club they love. Fortunately LCCC are hoping we can come up with some answers and are willing to listen to our findings with the heavy possibility of change, our expertise means we can construct a proposition for them and hopefully they'll take that on.

Thank you very much for your feedback, and if our changes are well received and acted upon, you never know, you may return as a happier member with a better playing team.

Thanks again,

Gareth

I have been a member for years - although I no longer live in Leicestershire.

Historically, I've always thought that the membership reprsents good value. Less so these days - partly because of the distance i have to travel and partly because of the hopelessness which surrounds the club including management committee that is detached from reality; re-cycling of a coaching staff that doesn't deliver; apathy on the field - a sense of we're here to get beaten again.

The club needs fresh and dynamic leadership simple as that.

I'm considering whether to sign up for next season - I don't anticipate any significant beneficial changes- obviously the acquisition of the ice cream trolley represents the club's level of ambition.

Diffficult choice for me.

The results stay the same; the coaching staff remain in a slightly modified form. There is no obvious sign of any improvement any season soon...but i don't want to be negative!

I welcome the reduction in media statements by PW along the lines that we are the victimes of misfortune... although I note in today's LM that Josh Cobb seems to have picked up the baton on this 'nearly' theme. There is nothing 'nearly' about LCCC it's simply that more or less Cobb apart there is simply not the type of ability in the squad to succeed in T20.

My advice to the club - given that you are so broke stop wasting what little you have on non productive overseas players. You might as well pay home grown players and in particular try to hang on to the handful of promising youngsters.

I want to start on a positive - just for a change. bringing an early end to the Sarwan contract is to be welcomed. As I said above we might as well play homegrown players than waste scant resources on non productive overseas.

In my opinion Sarwan at his best was a very solid bat - but neither exciting to watch nor a spectactally heavy scorer. neither was his game well suited to the shorter versions of the game where the money is. On the occasions I have seen him skipper the side - there was little evidence that he had the skills/ personality to lift a seriously out gunned side.

I trust that the end of this contract is just the start of a clear out of habitual failures whether players/coaches/ managers.

Start again from scratch Leicestershire.

Tend to agree. Some younger players are averaging better than last season which is a plus.

Build around them, good to see the good ones getting contract extensions.

We need a younger overseas player who wants to make the grade at Test match level over the shorter forms.

I've said it elsewhere, someone like Darren Bravo. Keen to develop his game and it will be mutually beneficial. Our bowlings improved, we need a quality bat to mould the others around.

And make Josh Cobb four day captain, it all started going pear when Sarwan came back. Up until then we were competing well.

Wow, country disagree more re the overseas player. We can't take 20 wickets and had we had a decent strike bowler would probably have won 2 or 3 CC games already.
Would like an experienced Aussie or Saffer, someone like Hilfenhaus to enable us to bowl out teams.
Also feel we need an experienced batter. burns was young and hungry and that didn't work out very well for us.

Understand that and you could be right but we only have O'Brian averaging over 40.

How the seconds are doing so well is puzzling but it shows its not all bad.
