Don't think I have ever.
Sounds awful.
Does it taste nice?
Isn't it for Afro Caribbeans who want to put on weight?

Have to say the breakfasts in Macdonalds are not bad. Bacon roll and hash brown and cup of coffee for me plus porridge and coffee for Mrs S comes to about 5 quid.

Yes, when on Granby Street, opposite the Grand Hotel, many years ago. Was always quite nice. Never eaten in any of them in Leicester since they declared the outlets in High Street and St. Georges (Which has recently been bulldozed) to be Halal registered and never told anyone about it .....

Never eaten in a Maryland Chicken shop, either, for the same reason, but the Halal label is always in the front window of those shops ..... unlike KFC ..... [:(!][V]

To be fair to them, they've come a long way since the 80's when all they sold were scraggy bits of miscellaneous carcass, loaded with grease and a light smattering of strange dust and crushed mystery matter.
Nowadays, the highly-processed off-the-bone stuff is probably no worse than any other fast-food 'chicken' products.
Any business that can reconstitute the gloop from the bottom of their fryers into a 'gravy' that people will actually pay money for, deserves some credit.
But as Clapham says, to have reached retirement age having avoided the House of the Colonel after at least one night of pints, really is some achievement [^]

Once, when living on Cricklewood Broadway in 1998, probably after a day in The Crown Hotel. Zinger burger or something. Never had one since. If I want fast food I go to Barracuda chippy in Ossett which is great. Been a veggie for nearly three years now with no regrets at all.

Early 80s in town followed by a break of about 37 years where my kids said they wanted to go for a change. Have to say it made me feel really ill afterwards. It must have been 50% food (or at least matter of some sort) and 50% oil, I feel sick just thinking about it. My kids haven't requested a repeat visit either. The clientele consisted of mainly teenagers. They must be popular there are plenty about and the recent stories of end of world apocalyptic running out of chicken suggests they are popular. I'm guessing that the media didn't have to look far for the thick obese people complaining the places were shut!

I'd rather KFC than any of the other fast food chains. I've never yet been served a McDonalds that looks like the picture on the menu. I went into a Burgerking at the services near Coalville once, and the woman put the burger in the microwave infront of me. I decided I wasn't so hungry.

It is convenient & cheap though. We took the kids out on Sunday. Ended up at South Mimms for some food, went into M&S there and spent £40 on sandwiches, fruit and drinks. Could have had a family bucket for less than half of that. I have no issue with is as a "treat" for the kids, but we had been out in the week for the lads birthday, so wasn't having it twice.

It is the halal issue that concerns me most. This horrible slaughter practise has been allowed to creep into the production of most of our supermarket meat, for fear of offending a certain religion, and to maximise profits. As far as I remember, only Waitrose and M&S have clearly stated that none of their meat is produced this way. I suppose you're alright eating pork though.

Hmmm.

'Before transport to slaughter, broilers are usually deprived of food for many hours, leaving them stressed and hungry. Catching, crating and transport are stressful and can result in bruising and broken bones. Broilers are either caught by hand by a team of catchers, or are picked up using a catching machine. Around 20 million chickens per year are already dead by the time they arrive at EU slaughterhouses.
At the slaughterhouse, chickens are typically hung by their feet on shackles whilst conscious, which is likely to be painful, particularly as leg problems are common. The birds are usually stunned by being dipped, head first, into an electrified water bath before their throats are cut. This stunning is sometimes ineffective: the struggling birds may raise their heads and miss the water, resulting in fully conscious birds having their throats cut.'

Yeah I imagine that's what it's like when you go in your sleep.

Halal slaughter can be done after stunning but whichever way they get slaughtered it isn't stress free or painless.
Especially if Ozzy is working at the abattoir.

I don't know about EU mass chicken rearing, but the traditional method of slaughtering beasts in this country involves stunning, and death is normally swift. I think that's preferable to stringing it upside down, before slitting its throat, to bleed to death. A nice prayer is said at the same time I believe. Oh, and you can add Morrisons to the "good guys", relatively speaking. By the way, I no longer patronise Indian restaurants (didn't like their food anyway).

It's not a stance against the burgers, Filbo - just a personal preference. I have occasionally enjoyed a quarter pounder with cheese at the end of a particularly heavy night, but generally the burgers make me feel like I've done something very bad and wrong to my body. I don't get the same feeling after the breakfast meals, which are lighter. I

I meant the burger buns are execrable – I haven't experienced the joys of their bacon rolls.

The mention of Wendy-burgers reminds me of a favourite gun story from the US. During a visit over there, a TV crew was filming a cop-team on their day-to-day work in Omaha. The cops were called to a suspected armed robbery at a local Wendy's and, naturally were trailed by the film crew. Rather fantastically, the cops managed to shoot dead not only the lone suspect, but also one of the cameramen!

As I say, they're beyond help.
