Who do the Cods see as their "local" rivals?

Geographically, Fleetwood being where it is has probably meant Town not having a traditional local affair, such as Blackpool preston for instance.

I first watched Fleetwood (growing up in Cleveleys I watched both Blackpool and Fleetwood on a regular basis) in the NPL, when as far as I can remember Wigan Athletic were considered local rivals (remember them bringing loads down for a match in the mid/ early 70s).

When Fleetwood reformed with Alan Tinsley as manager and Fleetwood played local football it was (well for a season) about beating the Golden Eagle!!

Then a bit of a rivalry with Lancaster City and Chorley and in more recent times with Barrow (the odd off the field dust up!) and Southport.

Seems to be based on the level Fleetwood are playing at than a tradional thing, would you say?

Any others to add to the list?

st helens,clitheroe,newcastle,kendal,telford,mossley....not sure what you mean about the golden eagle.?...i also think we never played lancaster in the league as when we got promoted they had financial difficulties and where then demoted a league or two...after beating two league 1 sides this year we now have morecambe and accrington to deal with next season, fingers crossed anyway, then who knows, maybe a league fixture with preston

Micky

I remember Fleetwood Playing Lancaster City in an FA Cup qualifier. There was quite a buzz about it. Think it was a draw at Highbury and Fleetwood won the reply at the giant Axe. Both sides took a good few fans ot each others venue.

Reference the Golden Eagle. It wasnt really a fan rivalry (as the Eagle didnt have a fan base as such) but after reforming and playing in the local league (pre Cheshire league)Fleetwood and the Eagle were head and shoulders the best team in the league.

Southport is the big game. Next year, if we can manage to go up, Morecambe will be a good one.

since 1980 when I first started going to games I can remember rivalries with Stalybridge in the early eighties, Man City fans would come to Highbury looking for a kick off and they usually got it. Always been rivalry with Chorley (there used to be graffiti on the park wall saying 'Die Chorley Scum'! Also in the late eighties we had a few rum do's with Accy and Morecambe and a fair few tussles with Barrow.Since then it's mainly been friendly rivalries with the likes of Clitheroe, Mossley, Witton , two exceptions are Telford (stemming from a group of their 'lads' attempting to smash their way in to the pub we were in)and Skem who's manager had it in for Fleetwood and the games were feisty affairs to say the least. Can see the games against Morecambe and Accy being well policed if we get promoted.

Shall we talk about Blackpool`s history. I remember bucket collections and fun runs to raise money to pay the bills. I doubt very much you had anything to do with that, like many others. You made the Wembley trips though didn`t you.

Take no notice mate. This character changes his nic every 2 minutes and spends half his life trying to kick a fuss up on AVFTT.

No egg you didn`t go under, but you would of done if the crowds had carried on under 2000. Where you there when that was happening? Funny how every Blackpool fan over a certain age claims to of been.
