Sad to see death of the former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland player in Spain.

One of the original "plastic Paddies" but gave his all in a green shirt [^].

Raised in Blackpool and given his first opportunity at Preston.

Ended playing career at Osasuna in Spain who also had Sammy Lee and Irelands Ashley Grimes (ex Man Utd).

Stayed in Spain and learnt the language becoming a soccer pundit on TV.

RIP

A good bloke. Didn't he manage a local Sunday League team? I remember talking to him on the touchline at Fleetwood Road North way back when.

I think he had some involvement with the Buccaneer sunday league side when I was turning out for Bay Horse late 70's

61, no age really.

Very well respected as a pundit and person in his adopted country of Spain

RIP..

Yes sad news indeed, Mike did manage the Buccaneer on Sunday's many years ago and went to Thames Rd and Palatine schools.

He forged an excellent career in TV punditry when he retired in Spain where he was hugely popular with the fans for his knowledge of the game, a friend of mine who also speaks fluent Spanish told me he had never heard an Englishman speak the language as good as Mike did.

RIP fella.

Correct RB....

My wife speaks reasonably good Spanish and when I pointed MR out to her on the TV one time whilst on holiday, she couldn't believe that he wasn't Spanish.

He totally embraced the language and lifestyle which is probably why he endeared himself so much to the Spanish people.

Interesting insight into Michael's involvement in local junior football, sounds like a great all round guy.

I left Cleveleys as a kid but had a friend who was playing goalkeeper for a local schoolboy team, he was called McVicar.
Anyone come across him?

Talking early 60's !!

Thorntonpool. I played a bit part for all three in between university and work in Yorkshire. Tony Wood in goals, the Chettoe twins trying to knock each other out in midfield, dj Dave Tudor up front. Great days 👍

There was an nice obituary for Michael in The Sunday Times (Irish edition), it mentioned he grew up on the "mean streets" of Blackpool.

Does anyone know which particular one and how "mean" it was?[8)]

There’s a good few “mean” streets off central drive. [rle]

Bit harsh that, Michael was from South Shore so not exactly "mean streets".

Now if he came from Revoe like me[;)]

The Chettoe twins, I'd completely forgotten about them... I went to Millfield with them in 1972ish?

Limechase - Marc and Phil - a feisty pair. A highlight was when they started scrapping with each other at their joint 18th. What is it with twins? [:D]
