John Robb interview - Blackpool FC, Punk, 70s, fanzines etc

If anyone is interested and wants a long read, did an interview with John Robb about all sorts of stuff, including the experience of following Pool in the 70s, music and football culture etc etc. By his own admission he's a 'lapsed' supporter but he's an interesting fella and very much passionate about Blackpool

Link: John Robb 'Wow,, I didn't know we had a team...'

I was involved in the local music scene in the 80s and met John on many occasions even supported The Membranes once, we were in awe of people like him but he was so helpful and friendly to a bunch of snotty little kids from Fleetwood. Top bloke

I've just been chatting to their legendary ex keyboard wizard, once a prominent poster on here. He is not threatening a comeback yet though it appears 😬🤞

John has led a life away from Blackpool for many years now. But he was on the judgment day protests with us. And for a few years before that was helping us with contacts in the media and politicians. Also linked us in to the spirit of shankly lads. His was long before many had seen the light!

Oh and the first time all the membranes were in the same place was 10years ago at Wembley! As 16 old yrs they were at Bloomfield rd every game. Like for many others, life and geography takes over.

What is the collective noun for a full compliment of Membranes? 😀

It was actually the Blackpool Rox EP which also featured SXXV, Zyklon B and the Ken Turner Set. Not a bad line up when you realise what each of those went on to become. SXXV used their Fsctory connections to get it recorded at Cargo. I wont say which band were in the studio in the session before but the 12 single is up on my wall ! The Membranes contribution to Rox was Ice Age and I wouldnt suggest to anyone its worth seeking out.
Flexible Membrane came next and was the DIY ethic which John took to heart. Muscles followed which claimed the Sounds Single of the Week spot. The original line up changed around 82 and Muscles was rereleased.
