We don't need a high profile manager

If Simon could prize Steven Thompson from his coaching role at PNE I'd be very very excited.

Local owner. Local manager. Everyone loves Steve.

This is what would be a brilliant move for me.

The problem with bringing Steve Thompson in as manager is you'd always be looking to bring in Steve Thompson as his assistant. And he'd be thinking he'd actually like to be the assistant as well all the time he was manager. Like a fancy Terry McPhillips, maybe.

Seems to have a good thing going on at the nobbers, annoyingly. They seem to recognise his value there and have grown that continuity over a few years now.

?????

Anyway. Steve motivated that ragtag bunch to the Premier League. He's motivating PNE in the same direction.

I've always thought he's be the natural long term fit for our club.

If he was going to come back here it would have been with Grayson last summer, but there was a silence until an assistant was found, and then Ian Miller was eventually sourced.

He's contracted to Preston and is making a difference for them in a role he's most comfortable with.

Not as far fetched as some think.

Why would Grayson bring in an assistant manager like Thommo? It's been years since they worked together and he would be a shoe-in if Grayson was potted! Also contracts mean nothing in football.

Out of Thommo, BB-M, Jones, Lowe, Hecks and Evatt then Evatt and Thommo would probably be joint-favorites if it was up to the fans.

However it's not up to the fans it's for the Board and SS to identify and recruit the best Manager for Blackpool.

Steve Thompson has been appointed first team coach at Preston North End ahead of the 2015/16 season.

Thompson joined then-manager Simon Grayson's backroom staff once again, after working under him at Blackpool, where the pair won promotion to the Championship.

From his nobbers profile page. Someone SG trusts but also someone who Preston fought harder to keep in their coaching structure when he went to Sunderland.

They never fought to keep him at all. You made that bit up pal.

Thommo won't leave his home and thus was only ever going to stay Preston (or a Lancashire club). He has a great relationship with Mr Hemmings who told him he has a position at the club so long as he wants it. I know this because he's told me.

There's a desire to keep him as they value him as part of their staff. They chose to get the compo for Grayson whilst maintaining continuity.

Would like him to be back here in our set up and not be in theirs but he's not a manager, or a head of first team coaching. You could see that in him whenever KO asked him to provide cover and with the way he spoke it at the time. I really enjoyed the night at Hillsbrough after Holloway went and the 2-0 win, and I think he felt that was the best it was going to get for him. Similar to how Dunn is talking right now, really.
