FAO TAM re Greece

Crete has LOADS but is very big. I think the west is better. You can fly to Chania and as the hedgehog says the Gorge is in that area. Lots to do. We've stayed at the same Villa east of Chania near Kalives on an olive grove, walking distance to town, no near houses . You can drive north to south down the old roads which are funny and a bit scary, like the road has been half lost and the road sign have bullet holes the size of your fist. An area where the Greeks defended successfully the Turkish invasion.

From there KNossos is 1hr. Spinologa (the former lepar colony) would be a further 1hr and then Ag. Nik. another 1hr, then Via beach (scene of the Bounty ads offa the 80s) anoth....you get the picture.

A lot depends on what you want really. Last year we did 5 days in Athens in an apt., the ferry to Kea for a week in a villa, then back to Athens for the flight back.

You may wish to look at Islands like Andros if Athens takes your fancy. And it should. Sooooooooo much history[;)].

A ferry and a villa to Aegina may suit.

Skathios and Skopolos are gorg. but not really historic. Kefalonia the same.

Corfu ha some of the ticks, but for two weeks??? Not sure.

In short:

2 weeks.

Athens few days, an island the rest (Crete is reachable)

Rhodes (never been) but looks to do some of what you need. Rhoses town is the oldest medieval wall or somert...

Crete. Good but choose your destination carefully, otherwise driving could be your main memory.

The Athens thing could be a problem if in high summer.
