Sign For Sir Jim

It seems sometimes that the Palace gives out Knighthood's as if they were sleeping garments and yet one man who thoroughly deserves the recognition was overlooked again last time round. So David7878 on the AVFTT message board decided to do something about it: "As you know last year there was a petition which was hoped would get Jimmy recommended for a Knighthood. Although the petition did very well, he was overlooked in the New Years honours list. Therefore, I set up a new one in the hope of ....

Dj And Graeme Sign In

If there was going to be one player who was about to destroy our dreams in our first game back in the Championship it was DJ Campbell. Coming on after 55 minutes, he almost broke the deadlock twice but some fine saves from Paul Rachubka prevented him from doing so. At least now he's at Bloomfield Road, Chubs can have the pleasure of seeing him at the opposite end of the pitch.Whilst last week's FA Cup exit hurt more than most defeats, at least it would have sounded a few alarm bells at ....

Blackpool 2 Wolves 2

Barring a banana skin exit to Torquay on Saturday, you'd have thought Tony Parkes will be installed as the new Blackpool manager. Another high energy display against Wolves will certainly have converted some of the doubters. It's fair to say that even Mystic Meg would struggle to predict the Blackpool side at the moment and Monday night saw a few more curve balls including a debut for Ian Harte, Daniel Nardiello on the bench, no Adam Hamill and as later emerged Lee Hendrie sat at home watching ....

Sheff Wed 1 Blackpool 1

Well, if that's the new face of Blackpool FC then bring it on! I've said before I felt the whole side had looked stale of late, but Larry's departure seems to have coincided with a far more upbeat and exciting Seasiders side.No surprise that the tangerine faithful turned out in their droves for this one. Whilst our home support is supressed by the ground (albeit we've only had one sell out this season), our away following contintues to be as impressive as ever with today's crowd joined by ....

Dividing Opinion

There are always players who fans adore, those who we can't wait to see the back of but then there's those interesting characters who really split opinion and none more so than Ben Burgess.Once again on Saturday, the club's top scorer sparked debate about his place in the team. Alan Gow's arrival in the second half and his subsequent goal gave more ammunition for the anti-Burgess brigade to shoot down the bird man! Simon Grayson described him after the game as an honest player who 'puts in a ....

Hells Bells!

Earlier this season, the Seasiders were knocked out of the Carling Cup by the then 89th team in the league, so can we go one better in the FA Cup against the team who on paper are six places below them!|What do Blackpool have to do to get a decent FA Cup draw! Whilst the Nobbers and the Dingles seem to get the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal on an annual basis, the Seasiders get Barnsley, Southend and Macclesfield! Now to add to that list Trevor Brooking and Ray Clemence draw us to ....

The Next Generation

Many years ago when I first supported Blackpool, the sight of a Seasiders shirt being worn by an under 16 on the Fylde Coast was as rare as a pair of scales in Neil Mellor's bathroom.A few years ago that all changed and it became the norm to see youngsters wearing Blackpool shirts. However, with increasing admission costs and so much football accessible elsewhere are we taking the next generation of 'Pool fans for granted. Gone are the days of 'Kids for a quid' and Block A of the North Stand ....

A Little Leaky!

It's ironic that when the Seasiders couldn't score two goals in one match for toffee that the defence kept us in games, now it appears we have a problem at the back with six goals in three games.Strange isn't it. In the five games before Derby we'd only scored four goals but conceded just 3. In the following 3 games we've scored five times but conceded 6! So why has our otherwise assured defence suddenly started leaking goals. Sadly for Danny Coid, his return to the back four has coincided ....

Cardiff City 2 Blackpool 0

In the end it wasn't the four games in 10 days which ended the Seasiders unbeaten run but a lapse of concentration in the last 7 minutes at Ninian Park as Blackpool went down 2-0 at Cardiff. With only Mo Camara coming in to the 16 for the unfortunate Joe Martin, Simon Grayson stuck with the same XI as of late - some may say with so many games in recent days that the side could have done with freshening up but clearly Larry likes to stick with players who have done well. The home side were ....

Birmingham City 0 Blackpool 1

Funny old game isn't it. Larry gets lambasted for a 4-5-1 on Tuesday, Alex McLeish gets the same treatment today. However, with 'Pool in fine form, it was one of those days Brum would've struggled no matter what formation they'd played.St Andrews isn't as daunting as some ground and certainly looks better than it did back in 1994. With security so tight umbrellas were thrown in bins outside, some Blackpool fans enjoying too much pre-match tipple (he'll get slaughtered when this one comes out!) ....

Birmingham City Preview

Ahh Melvyn Capleton - a blast from the past - and for me a goalkeeper that will always be remembered for collecting the ball out of his net 7 times at St Andrews on New Years Eve 1994.A game that will be remembered for so many reasons - Darren Bradshaw putting Blackpool in the lead allowing Seasiders fans a few minutes to get in a quick burst of 'sh*t ground, no fans' before he equalised for Birmingham at the other end! I remember traipsing out at 6-1 in freezing conditions with snow starting ....

Blackpool 1 Barnsley 0

After the ball came off the line three times off hands, chests and backsides, you did wonder whether it was going to be 'one of those games' but Steve Kabba makes it two in three.I was a bit surprised by the team choice from Larry today - but then hearing Alan Gow was injured in training made slightly more sense of it but I still would've tinkered with the midfield to accomodate David Vaughan (maybe I was proved right by the full time whistle after another impressive performance from the ....

How Now Alan Gow

When Alan Gow turned down the chance to go to Turf Moor (and let's face it, plenty before him have!) you wondered if the Scot would ever turn up in Lancashire. Well funny how a few miles and a coast line can change an opinion of a county. With most of the nation gripped by Arabs, Berbatov and over-priced players (they should've waited for the sales in January when they'll be half price!), there was just one name that was in Blackpool's fans minds on transfer deadline day and at 9.30 that deal ....

Southampton Preview

To be honest, I'll be glad when we've got Saturday's game out of the way. A two week break, we come back to a home game and by then hopefully the majority of the squad will be fit and ready to go!That's not to say I don't realise the importance of this game - far from it - however, I have never been so relieved that Overpaid Tarts FC (Eng-er-land) are in action next weekend so we can take a fortnight's break. It's been clear from the opening games that we weren't ready for the start of the ....

Who'll Score The Goals?

If Simon Grayson is wondering why he stuck a knot in his hankie, we can help him with an answer. Larry, you'll have tied that knot to remind you to buy a striker! With just a few weeks left until the new season and following the departures over the last few months of the season of Keigan Parker, Andy Morrell, Grant Holt, Scott Vernon and Paul Dickov, there is suddenly a distinct lack of goalscorers at Bloomfield Road. If you take our penalty taker and the goals that Kaspars Gorkss scored for the ....

They're Behind Us ....

Remember the days when we used to look at our promotion odds as opposed to our relegation odds! Nowadays, as soon as the season ends our first thoughts turn to who'll finish below us?You must have played that game by now? Searching through the other 23 teams and hoping to find three teams who'll occupy the 22nd, 23rd and 24th places. Last season I think most of us predicted Scunthorpe and Colchester's demise but this time the choice doesn't seem as obvious. In fact looking through the list of ....

The Best And The Worst ...

Last season almost seems to be a distant memory but just before we dispose of it in to the archives, what were those moments that stuck in the memory and those that stuck in the craw! The final two sections of our AVFTT poll reflect the highs and lows of the season. Following the play off win of the previous May it was always unlikely we'd receive such a feeling again but similiary we wanted to avoid the other extreme which thankfully we managed. However, over the 9 months which were your ....

Martin Arrives!

When we were promoted to the Championship, my hope was that we'd get the best of what the Premiership couldn't cater for. Finally that looks like it may well be happening.Last season we were reliant on players who'd done well in League one and those who'd not quite made it elsewhere in the Championship. To a certain extent that's been repeated this season with Marlon Broomes, Matt Gilks and Alex Baptiste. However, the signing today of Joe Martin is potentially a real step forward and, ....

Modern Day Matthews Moves On!

The delights of him dribbling, his appearance at Leicester and THAT penalty will leave many Blackpool fans with happy memories of Wes Hoolahan but for now nothing there's nothing but disappointment at his departure. The news that Hoolahan has joined Norwich won't raise any eyebrows around the Fylde Coast. The deal has been in the public domain for weeks but today it was confirmed that the wee man would be heading to Carrow Road with the one surprise being that goalkeeper Matt Gilks ....

There's still another 54 days to go until the start of the new football season but with the release of the new fixtures today you can almost smell the freshly cut grass, the Holland's pie and the cup of bovril. So, the Championship fixtures are out and the newbies Derby, Birmingham, Reading, Swansea, Forest and Doncaster are all in the mix for the new season. The campaign which gets underway on August 9th sees the Seasiders face last year's beaten play off finalists Bristol City - it's the ....

The Wonder Of Wes

Whilst most of our players are enjoying afternoons on the golf course, lazing in the sun or in the bookies (nothing unusual there then!) the season has only just ended for a couple of them.Whilst there's been talks of Wes Hoolahan turning up at Norwich's training ground for a medical, the truth of the matter is that he's actually just been with the Republic of Ireland squad and last week made his debut against Colombia at Craven Cottage. It was a fully deserved cap for the youngster who's gone ....

Attendances At 30 Year High

So how much impact did Blackpool's promotion to the Championship have on our attendances at Bloomfield Road? Well, the Seasiders saw the third biggest increase in the whole Football League (after Morecambe and Sunderland) and the biggest in the Championship. In total, the Seasiders saw a 28.9% increase in their attendance last season of 1,984 people per match day. Clearly a percentage of those figures will have been thanks to an increase in away attendances but sell outs throughout the ....

No Regrets ...

Some have described it as the biggest game in seasons but with another two games to come, we're not yet at the critical stage where we've been in the past when it's been do or die. Whilst the Seasiders aren't at the 'must win' stage, there would be huge relief if we picked up 3 points on Saturday. The only problem with writing a website about one team is that you often get to the point during a season when you've said it all before and arguably we've reached that point. It's been a long old ....

All Geared Up For A Super Saturday!

This time last week the headline was 'Can this week get any worse ..' and whilst Saturday clearly was a bad day for Blackpool, thankfully this week couldn't really have gone any better with none of the teams around us making real headway.A Barnsley defeat against Hull tonight keeps them in the mix and arguably it's still one from seven with just four points separating those sides. The main positive about tonight is the fact that the Tykes now face Leicester on Saturday and they'll be full aware ....

Relegation Looms Large!

The worst thing you can be at this stage of this season is 'out of form'. 5 points from 24 is the reason that Blackpool are now slowly sinking to that bottom three and a poor performance at Cardiff didn't help.I was amazed that Larry stuck with the side that lost at West Brom. OK, we looked good for 80 minutes but where were the goals? It was clear that a Burgess/McPhee combination hasn't won us any games and yet Grayson persisted with this combination as the Seasiders put in a lack-lustre one ....
