Riga Gone

Blackpool have parted company with Jose Riga after Chairman Karl Oyston said the two sides had failed to patch up their differences. In one of the shortest, and sadly for Riga most unsuccesful spells, as manager at Bloomfield Road, the Belgian only won one of his fourteen games in charge whilst exiting to Shrewsbury in the League Cup. His dismissal comes following the Seasiders 3-0 defeat at Reading on Saturday. There has been speculation in the media over the weekend that Blackpool have lined ....

Reading 3 Blackpool 0

The gap between Blackpool and the rest gets greater, as it seems does the quality between Blackpool and their opponents. Whilst there have been some glimmers of light in the last few months that the Seasiders may have enough to get out of this, at the Madjeski Stadium on Saturday it became clear to everyone that unless Jose Riga can find some more quality to bring in to the side then Blackpool are doomed. The first half typified these teams\' fortunes, with neither able to muster anything ....

Reading V Blackpool Preview

Six games on the road and nothing to show for it in terms of victories. Clearly Jose Riga will be looking for vast improvements in the Seasiders form at Bloomfield Road if his side is to get off the bottom of the table but away from home things haven\'t been great either. Two draws away at Brighton and Middlesbrough is all Blackpool have to show for their miles on the road but will an out of form Reading prove more fruitful? Jose Riga will once again have to shuffle his pack at the back as ....

Blackpool 0 Derby 1

Missed opportunities at one end, a stupid rash tackle at the other and Blackpool suffer another defeat. The failures in front of goal are starting to cost Blackpool who increased their number of shots on target from recent games but still didn\'t manage to beat the on loan Jack Buttland, who in truth just had to stand his ground to keep the Seasiders out. Silly mistakes are still costing Jose Riga\'s side but some quality is desperately needed. Blackpool had the best opportunities in ....

Blackpool V Derby Preview

The last time these two teams met, Blackpool were brushing the relegation places and Derby were hoping for the top two. Maybe ot\'s a reflection of the quality of the two teams that the Rams are now in the automatic places and the Seasiders are at the bottom. Derby were the best team in the Championship in 2014 and deserve to be up there whilst Blackpool are by far the worst and deserve to be where they are. Jose Riga has some big decisions to make ahead of this game. The big question is who ....

Huddersfield 4 Blackpool 2

There was a time when Blackpool were the \'comeback kids\' but nowadays there comebacks are more 911 than Take That! 3-0 down and with half time approaching there was a feeling that the M61 would have been more appealing than another 45 minutes at the John Smith Stadium but then two goals gave the Seasiders fans optimsim which in the end was nothing more than false hope. The damage had been done and sadly a result just wouldn\'t come. With Peter Clarke a surprise addition in place of the ....

Huddersfield V Blackpool Preview

Whilst everyone was euphoric to finally get a win under our belts against Cardiff two weeks ago, it\'s worth remembering as we go in to another mini series of games before yet another international break, that Blackpool are still struggling at the foot of the table. You can\'t lose all of your opening six games and not expect a place in the bottom three for quite some time and even another win on Saturday wouldn\'t take us out of the relegation places. However, with the renewed confidence that ....

Mini Clear Out Begins

When you think back to the summer and the eight players that Blackpool had on their books, it\'s just as well that Jose Riga went out and found some new bodies. Those \'infamous eight\' were Gary McKenzie, Tony McMahon, Charles Dunne, David Perkins, Steven Davies, Sergei Zenjov and Tom Barkhuizen. It now seems remarkable that Riga actually held training sessions with these eight players. So what has happened to the infamous eight? Well, Tony McMahon and David Perkins have bedded themselves in ....

Vision Or Division

A post by Tim Fieldin, the BST Chairman which it seems has got plenty of you talking. Comment on the message board if you\'d like to have your say on what Tim has written. Walking out of Bloomfield Rd on Friday on the 53rd minute was a very surreal experience. It wasn\'t something I (and no doubt many others) wanted to be doing. I have never done it before and I hope I never have to do it again. On exiting the ground onto Bloomfield Road we were greeted by a group ....

Blackpool 1 Cardiff 0

It was an evening of winners. The Blackpool players who were magnificent throughout and secured a victory which has been a long time coming. The Blackpool manager Jose Riga who finally got that win that all his time and patience has thoroughly deserved. The Blackpool fans whose protests made TV and press coverage and who made their feelings about the current administration well and truly known. It was a night where you wanted our players to stand tall and to put in a performance that it\'s ....

Blackpool V Cardiff Preview

Anyone attempting to guess the time of the first goal on Friday night would be ill advised to stick down the 53rd minute. There would be a certain irony as fans leave their seats and head down the exit tunnels if the ball is nestling in the back of the Cardiff net. That said, there wouldn\'t be one fan who wouldn\'t celebrate that goal because, despite the planned protests, everyone who turns up on Friday is also there to see the team win. There are some pretty horrendous stats doing the ....

Middlesbrough 1 Blackpool 1

It is so agonisingly close but Blackpool still can\'t cross the line to give them their first league win of the season. Anyone who was watched their performances of late know we can\'t claim to be the better side so far this campaign but we are matching sides. Tonight they could claim that they were marginally the better of the two teams but they had to make do with just a point and a 10th game without a victory. With Peter Clarke still ill (those lemsips aren\'t working) it was a Lazarus ....

First things first. Two signings. What Jose Riga wanted. What every fan wanted. What Blackpool needed ... or not as the case may be. Has there ever been such a lukewarm reception for two new players? Some of the descriptive words used included \'uninspiring\', \'cheap\', \'desperate\' and \'typical\'. Fair to say that Andre Blackman and Fermose Mendy have got their work cut out if they are to impress a demanding Blackpool audience. Two signings may have been just the news that Blackpool fans ....

Blackpool 1 Norwich City 3

And that Ladies and Gentleman is what you call shooting yourself in the foot. More than match a verya average performance from Norwich in the first half, take the lead with a well worked out move in the second half and then gift them two own goals and allow them to dispose with ease for the third. The one thing that has given Blackpool fans some heart of late is the way we\'ve defended - but then that was with some actual defenders. If karl Oyston denied Jose Riga the chance to bring in some ....

Blackpool V Norwich Preview

There are many over-used football expressions with Blackpool being a seaside town. Roller-coaster, the big one and Blackpool rocks being some of the more commonly used, however one which you don\'t hear too much is that the \'tide is turning\' and if there\'s ever a weekend for the hacks to take that one up then it\'s this one. Norwich are the latest side to arrive from the top six to Bloomfield Road as the Seasiders tricky start to the season continues. Stat fans will know there are some ....

The Curious Case Of Mcgahey Part 2

So back in July we wrote There were few good things to come out of the 2013/14 season. OK we had our best start in years but after that other than Ince\'s departure and the win at Wigan, the only good thing to come out of the campaign was the emergence of Harrison McGahey. Having failed to find a decent central partnership for much of the season the combination of Cathcart and McGahey was seen as one of the reasons for our eventual survival. Here\'s some of the posts on the matter from the ....

Jose - Search For New Players

It\'s another one of those weeks that Jose Riga can only dream of. Thanks to our shocking cup exit to Shrewsbury Town in the Capital One Cup (what seems like an eternity ago), this week is a clear week for the Blackpool manager which means another opportunity to get back on the training ground. More importantly though it\'s another week to get back on the phone as he searches for those elusive new players. There is a general consensus, despite not having yet won a game, that Riga has worked ....

Brighton 0 Blackpool 0

So the wait goes on. At least there are four Premier League teams, Fulham and Carlisle who are in the same boat as the Seasiders as they look for that elusive first win of the season. That afternoon at the DW Stadium in April when Blackpool recorded their last win seems a long time ago but at least the last week has seen us avoid defeat twice and only concede due to a rash penalty. At any other time of the season a draw at Brighton would have been considered a good result but these are tough ....

The battle of the seaside towns commence at the Amex on Saturday with one side brushing itself down from the Play Off disappointments of last season and another still tasting the grit of having sand kicked in it\'s face more than once this season. Blackpool will get back up and brush themselves down for another Championship game knowing that the gap between them and escape from the bottom three is becoming an increasingly worrying one. It seems all the talk on the message board is about the ....

Blackpool 0 Watford 1

Lady Lucky must have had a pretty awful holiday in Blackpool at some point in the past. It was a night of penalties as we conceded, missed and were denied and the winless run continues. Indeed, if it wasn\'t for the draw against Wolves if you stretch back to last season we aren\'t far off completing the imperfect 10. Jose Riga applauded his side for effort but what he was really saying was the we need quality. The game in a nutshell - Joe Lewis was outstanding and prevented this being a ....

Blackpool V Watford Preview

You will struggle to find a month worse than August 2014 in Blackpool\'s history. Six defeats, the unrest with the manager and Chairman, no pre-season, a debacle of a transfer deadline day, support ebbing away and a public spat between the owners of the club. Whilst it will take a massive rebuilding process to put a lot of that right, the draw against Wolves and the fact that Riga was still in charge on Saturday was a start. The manager lived to fight another day and hopefully the support for ....

Blackpool 0 Wolves 0

If pride, respect and dedication earned you league points then Jose Riga would be top of the Championship. To have come through a week where his job was offered to two different men, to have taken the knocks in the transfer market before the window closed and to lead a side that hadn\'t won a point all season in to a game against a side that are second in the league took all of those traits and in the end it paid of. Maybe Riga has worked out Karl Oyston in a way no other manager has. After ....

The Chairman Nobody Wants

Over the years there have been Chairman who have risen to prominence for all the wrong reasons. Indeed you mention the names of Peter Ridsdale, Ken Bates and Milan Mandaric to name but three and it sends a shiver down any self respecting football fans spine. Welcome to the unpopularity party Karl Oyston who\'s reputation as a football Chairman now holds as much credibility as Sepp Blatter\'s reign in charge of FIFA. That said, both Oyston and Blatter seem immovable forces. Neither seems ....

The Last Chance Saloon

Drinking champagne at the top table was something that Karl Oyston found little problem adapting to. Having taken over when Blackpool were in the half a lager and packet of nuts league, our gradual progression up the leagues saw Karl\'s credibility increase amongst his peers. However having made more bad decisions than a News of the World editor, Karl now finds himself supping the dregs in the last chance saloon. No one likes an old drunk who\'s out stayed his welcome and Karl currently is ....

De Roover And Out - Your Call

So it would seem that Blackpool are one man down. The mystery man who supposedly worked alongside Jose Riga - although probably wouldn\'t be picked out by any Pool fan in an identity parade - Bart De Roover has done one. It seems he\'s taken a one way flight back to Belgian with the only question now whether the Seasiders manager will stay there with him. Although nothing confirmed by the club, it does seem to have been a quick exit. This is how it\'s been reported \'Bart De Roover is back in ....
