Martin O’Neill has praised the way Arsenal have turned the title race into a three-team affair – as he tries to plot their downfall at the second time of asking.

Villa host the Gunners at Villa Park on Wednesday night not having won in the league – or even scored in the league - since their 3-0 defeat at the Emirates just after Christmas.

Cup success has taken over since, with three wins over Blackburn and one against Brighton putting MON’s team in the Carling Cup final and fifth round of the FA Cup.

But now O'Neill knows if his team are to maintain their hopes of finishing in the top four, they must get their campaign back on track with a positive result in this one.

He told the Villa website: ‘It's the tough part of the season - it's underway now. I am absolutely thrilled we are contesting the Carling Cup final, which is great news for us all. We need to put that to the side now because we have a load of games coming up that will obviously make or break our season, starting with the game against Arsenal.

’It's a really difficult game against a team who have thrown themselves back into the championship equation. They have fought back magnificently considering they were written off about five weeks ago when they were beaten by Chelsea.’

Who’s best placed to finish fourth – Villa, City, Spurs or Liverpool? Can any of them finish in the top three? Give us your verdict on our forum. It's quick and easy to register
