Villa's Carling Cup semi-final showdown with Blackburn on Tuesday could be called off because of frost and snow in the north-west.

Rovers officials could be forced to postpone the first leg encounter if conditions around Ewood Park donít improve.

Blackburnís pitch is expected to be playable but police and the local authorities are concerned about the safety in the area of the ground.

Villa and Rovers are anxious for the game to go ahead to avoid fixture congestion. But Thursday January 14 has been provisionally pencilled in as an alternative date with the need to play the match before the second leg at Villa Park on January 20.
