Michael Ballack may miss Chelsea’s visit to Villa Park next Saturday after picking up an injury while playing for Germany.

The midfielder picked up an ankle knock in the Germans’ win over Russia which makes him a doubt for their game with Finland on Wednesday and the trip to Villa next weekend.

With John Mikel Obi having missed Nigeria`s game this weekend, the Blues could find themselves stretched in midfield for Saturday’s eagerly-anticipated game.

Meanwhile, Villa left-back Stephen Warnock has praised the man whose England place he would love to wrestle away – Ashley Cole.

Warnock said Cole was the best left-back in Europe, if not the world. The pair go head to head next Saturday but Warnock knows he has it all to do to stand any chance of making the World Cup finals.
