From the start of the season, Martin O’Neill has been under some pressure from the fans.

This was down to the disastrous end of last season we had - and a large amount of blame that MON must take for it.

This season, even after Wigan, we had a different squad and a different team, but a small vociferous minority of fans still seem set against MON. I just do not get them.

MON is a unique manager - he has his little ways which may not be seen as modern but surely rescuing us from the depths of O’Leary’s time to guide us to 10th, 6th and 6th again shows they do work.

In modern times it appears the fans are less patient, require quick results and now require so-called entertaining football to boot.

For MON, and for some fans, all that matters is the result. We sometimes get Lucky. Sometimes we’re great; sometimes we have routine wins, but they are wins.

The position after six games of this season is good, we are where I thought we should be - and we can push on.

There is no doubt that the next two home games, Man City and Chelsea, will define the early part of the season and after those games, we will know exactly where we stand.

The key question to be answered over these games is whether MON will play the correct players and in the correct formation.

Despite what Nigel Reo-Coker did he HAS to play - and Carew HAS to be dropped for a string of underar performances which have shown no enthusiasm for the job in hand. These will be the tests the forthcoming games.

I have total faith and belief in MON … so should all the fans.
