The trip to Blackburn was one Villa expected to yield three points – and after three minutes all looked fine as we took the lead.

And for the next 20 minutes, we were in command – before a sloppy goal changed the game.

For the rest of the game it looked like it was heading towards a draw - and then another piece of bad defending by Richard Dunne cost us and that was it.

We could debate all the time about the formations and the substitution of Fabian Delph for Emile Heskey, but I agree with MON when he says it players that matter and not formations.

Frankly, on this occasion the players let us down - but all is not lost. It is a defeat that ended a very good run but now we have two major test coming up and hopefully the return of Steve Sidwell, given his great record when he plays, may make a difference.

What this game showed was that we have to learn against the lower teams to shut out games more convincingly like, say, Spurs do. We have to develop a ruthless streak to put these teams away because we are good enough to do that.

On a positive note, let’s give praise to the heavens for the current form of Gabby: he is looking the 'real deal' and lets just hope this continues for the rest of the season, because if/when John Carew gets back to the form we know he can show, we will be putting these games to bed.
