Nigel Reo-Coker has apologised to Martin O’Neill over their training-ground bust-up – and the Villa boss has accepted it.

The manager considers the matter closed after axing him from the squad for Saturday’s win over Portsmouth.

The midfielder trained with his team-mates on Monday and did an additional session on his own in the afternoon.

He will now be in contention for selection for the Carling Cup third-round tie at home to Cardiff City on Wednesday night.

Reo-Coker was dropped for a heated exchange with O’Neill during an 11-a-side training game last Thursday.

Reo-Coker has admitted that he swore at O’Neill, who, it is reported, has declined the opportunity to fine the player.

Longer-term, Reo-Coker’s future at Villa looks uncertain, though. He has fallen some way down the pecking order and Villa would sell him in January if the right offer came in.
