Aston Villa’s latest signing won’t register on the football Richter scale anything like some of those Real Madrid have been making – but it could prove a very shrewd one in the future.

The club have snapped up a hot prospect from Northampton Town, who – despite being only 16 - is being tipped to go on to great things in the game.

Villa have completed the signing of Cobblers’ academy graduate Courtney Cameron for an undisclosed fee.

The 16-year-old is one of a number of Northampton teenagers to move into the Premier League following in the footsteps of Mark Randall and Anton Blackwood.

Northampton expect Cameron to be a top talent in the future and believe Villa boss Martin O'Neill's outlay will provide value for money.

‘Courtney has been at the club for a number of years and has improved immeasurably in that time,’ Town's head of youth Geoff Harrop told Sky Sports.

‘He's an attacking player, very athletic and has an excellent attitude. He has worked hard, listened well and he, just like Mark and Anton before him, is proof that local players are in good hands here at Northampton Town.’

Would you be sorry to see Nicky Shorey go, or can he still do a job for Villa? Discuss this in our forum. It's quick and easy to register
