Blue noses were left red faced as Villa made it 15 goals in three games

Villa Park saw its biggest derby victory over Birmingham City for almost 50 years on Saturday, with a 5-1 thrashing against their local rivals.

Blues stood their ground for 30 minutes, but once their defense was broken it was all over for the visitors.

With two goals from Ashley Young and John Carew, the blues fans were well on their way before the final whistle, missing City regain some pride with a goal from McFadden.

This was short lived as Gabby Agbonlahor secured a 5th for the home side and completed the game.

The win is sure to have impressed watching England Manager Fabio Capello as England hopefuls, Young and Agbonlahor helped secure the win.

This stunning victory and Portsmouth loss to Manchester City see’s Villa move into 6th place in the Premier League and now only 3 points behind 5th place Everton, who they face on Sunday.

The win at Goodison Park would see Villa move level on points with Everton and right in the mix for Europe.

With 69 wins for Villa out of the 184 times the two sides have met, the odds look good, lets just hope the boys stay on top.

Greatest moment…

Double goal scorer, John Carew, has expressed how Saturdays win against Blues was his greatest experience at Villa.

Carew, who has now scored 12 goals this season for Villa, told AVFC ‘this was the greatest experience since I came to the club, I really enjoyed the game.’

Taking no credit for his goals on Saturday, he thanked Young and Barry and said the team was ‘unbelievable.’

The Norwegian is hopeful for Sundays clash against Euro rivals Everton and describes Villas football at the moment as ‘amazing’ and believes Villa really can make Europe.

Not distracted...

Villa Skipper Gareth Barry has responded to all the speculation surrounding his Villa Career and has vowed not be distracted.

We told you last week how Chelsea had shown an interest in the England International, and now there have been links to Liverpool as well.

With two years left on his contract, he has explained how this season has been his personal best at the Club and with him serving almost 10 years at Villa Park he believes he can still be successful.

He told AVFC that ‘until my manager says something different of I hear something different then my job is to focus on helping Villa finish the season. I don’t se why I should be sidetracked at this moment.’

New mosaic is Suite…

Villa’s new mosaic was unveiled this week and features above the Holte Suite at Villa Park.

Inspired by the old Trinity Road stand masterpiece, the new five piece design has kept the gold leafed tiles for the lion on the crest and the text.

Dan Meredith, Villas marketing executive told AVFC that ‘the new move follows a big push to appreciate tradition.’

So far the new design seems to be a big hit with the fans, along with the re-emergence of the Holte pub!

And Finally…

Think back to week four. Yes that’s right April fools. If you recall our And finally story of that week was about Capello making his England stars learn Italian because he couldn’t learn English.

Well it was supposed to be an April fool, but it seems “si” - lly scouser Wayne Rooney took it seriously after a break to Milan and has been practicing the lingo on his way to training.

So far he’s managed to learn yes!

Wayne a little word of advice- Non rinunciare al lavoro di giorno!!!!!

Until next time,
