As the big Derby approaches Martin O'neill's men have settled into fantastic goalscoring form. granted the opposition was lowly Bolton Wanderers and the worst Premier League team ever Derby County. None the less you can only beat the team in front of you and team captain Gareth Barry is chomping at the bit to get into top gear against the bitter rivals.

"I think we have got the upper hand obviously we are doing quite well and they are struggling but i think going forward we are going to be too much for them."

Barry has been the only Villa player allowed to speak out this week alongside Manager Martin O'Neill after previous comments were greeted with dismay from the Blues board. Olof Mellberg being the main perpetrator. This promises to be a very special occasion for Aston Villa's Brummie contingent. Craig Gardner, Isaah Osbourne, Zat Knight and Gabriel Agbonlahor could all play a very telling part in what promises to be a fiery occasion at Villa Park. If Villa needed anymore motivation Chelsea's 1-0 win at Everton has ensured it is all to play for. A win here would close the gap to three points with a game to play and with Pompey's minds seemingly fixed on the FA cup final and with Everton still to play; Villa can now realistically look to fifth place and automatic European qualification.

When asked about Villa's chances Martin O'neill told avfc.co.uk "While it's still there we might as well go for it! When we had a dip in form and results we didn't give up on it. That didn't mask our dissapointment that we didn't play well and dropped points but we really didn't listen to people that said it was the end of it"

As the season draws to a close our boy's haven't fallen into mid table obscurity as many thought we would instead Martin O'neill's men have risen to the challenge and produced flowing football, that now puts us in touching distance of Europe.

Keep it going lads
