Aston Villa ended their goal drought and got back to their winning ways after they secured a spectacular 4-0 win against Bolton.

This was their first win in just over a month and their first clean sheet since November.

The boys looked back to their best as they dominated the game throughout, and it only took them 9 minutes to break down Bolton, with a header from Gareth Barry to the far post. Bolton almost equalized on 23, but the bar came to Villa's rescue.

Villa should have secured the game before half time with shots from Young, Carew, Taylor and Laursen, but even so, they out played Bolton and went to the break in the lead.

The good form continued after half time and it only took 11 minutes before Villa went 2-0 up when Agbonlahor made contact with a low cross from Barry, getting his first goal of 2008.

Barry made it 3 after an hour, after a lucky deflection went in his favour. This put the game out of Bolton’s reach and secured the match for Villa. However, it was not over yet as substitute Harewood made it four on 85, after finding the back of the net with a header from a stunning free kick from Barry, getting his first goal of the season.

The win saw Villa remain in 7th place in the League, but now have 52 points, which puts them only 1 point behind Portsmouth and only 8 points from taking that 5th Europe place from Everton.

Martin O’ Neill backed his boys…

Gabby Agbonlahor and Marlon Harewood have expressed how Martin O’Neill has continued to back them despite their goal droughts this year.

The duo, who ended their run of not scoring on Saturday against Bolton, had not scored at all this year for the club and Harewood not at all this season.

Despite this Martin O’Neill kept his faith in them and they did not disappoint, with two fantastic goals on Saturday.

Agbonlahor told AVFC: ‘The gaffers been brilliant through the run. He told me to play my normal game and the goals would come.’

Everyone is hopeful that the duo can go on scoring and take them to that all important place in Europe.

Looking to Saturday’s game against relegated Derby…

Saturday see’s Aston Villa away at Pride Park against bottom of the League Derby County for their 113th clash.

Villa are favourite to come away with the win, after winning 57 out of their last 112 meetings. Although their away record to the Rams is nothing to shout about (sorry guys), with only winning 19 out of 56, they still have the edge after their fantastic 4-0 win against Bolton and Derby, deflated after their premature relegation.

If the boys manage to come away with the full 3 points they will move to 6th in the Premier League only one place from Europe.

O’ Neill in Munich? …

Martin O’ Neill was spotted in Munich on Thursday at the Allianz Arena for the clash between Bayern Munich and Getafe.

He slammed reports that he was there for reasons other than just for preparations for the summer.

He told AVFC that ‘watching football is my job, and it’s important for me to try and strengthen my club, the more players I see the better.’

Maybe we could see some new faces at Villa Park next season??? Watch out!!!

Villa still needs you…

After we told you last week how Aston Villa Supporters Trust needed your help to raise money for an honorary statue of William McGregor, £33,000 has been raised.

A total of £55,000 is needed in order for the statue to be completed next year, so another £12,000 needs to be raised.

The statue to honor the father of football will be grounded outside the Directors entrance in the Trinity Road Stand.

You can donate at the address we gave you last week, but here it is again just incase.

And Finally…

There’s good news for men across the country as Chelsea star Ashley Cole was sent a stern message from wife Cheryl as she donned a necklace with the word ‘available’ whilst making a sexy new music video.

Geordie Cheryl took back love rat Ashley after it was rumored he had an affair.  The pair were said to be okay but it looks like Cheryl has other ideas and will have made many young men’s days with the suggestion that she is ‘Heartbroken’ and ‘Available’

Until next time,
