Gary Sobers Evening
Just been to a lunch organised by my club, ,with Sir Gary as guest. I had met him briefly on a club tour to Barbados in the 1990s, and found him to be a bit grumpy, surly even. I was not anticipating anything special, but pleased to say he was absolutlely fantastic, and charming with it.He had Basharat Hassan, ex Notts, as his organiser,who was good fun. I did get to speak to the great man, and reminded him about his place in Yorkshire history, ie the American tour.He spoke to me ....

I Met Wilfred Rhodes........
I too have met the greatest all-rounder..... and Garfield Sobers, as well. Only joking, but I did meet Sobers in Barbados when he was The Cricket Tour Company's celebrity guest, and I met the Great Wilfred in Burton-on-Trent when I was a young boy. He lived there with his daughter-in-law, I think it was. I lived there with my parents, having just moved from Bradford.I felt almost as awe-struck as an old(ish) man meeting Sobers as I had as a 12-year-old meeting Rhodes. Rhodes would have ....
