Wolves came back from Whaddon Road with a win after a short trip to Cheltenham Town. Mick McCarthy named a relatively young side for this encounter, perhaps wary of the exertions of trips to Belgium and Ireland in recent days- and the hosts almost took advantage within the first minute of play as youngster Marley Watkins wormed his way through in a bid to fire off an effort from 20 yards, but Steven Mouyokolo was quick to close him down.
Moments later young away skipper David Davis tried a similar party piece but goalkeeper Daniel Lloyd- Weston thwarted him, a Nenad Miljas free kick just before the 15 minute mark not troubling him either. Geoffrey Mujangi Bia had other ideas, working his way through to round the keeper, only Andy Gallinagh's block stopping him and no doubt sparing his keeper a bad start to a Friday night.
But the evening could have perked up considerably had Josh Klein- Davies's long range stinger troubled Marcus Hahnemann in the Wolves goal, JJ Melligan forcing him to backtrack to save his free kick just prior to the half hour before Andy Keogh struck with venom at the other end to make it 1-0. This could have proved a hammer blow- but not for the resilient hosts, who saw Melligan head just wide from Brian Smikle's cross- normal service of sorts was resumed before half time as Sam Vokes and Scott Malone proved stern examiners of Lloyd- Weston.

The interval saw Ashley Hemmings replace goalscorer Keogh, and Vokes was quick to serve a notice of intent with a header from Malone's cross as Wolves looked to assert themselves, a swift counter brokered by Melligan and nearly accidentally finished off by Mouyokolo, the visitors recovering as Nenad Miljas led his opponents a merry dance before Keith Lowe's perfectly timed tackle caught him in the act- Hahnemann then pulling off a full length save from Watkins before nearly blotting his copybook in spilling the ball following a Jake Lee attempt on goal, Danny Andrew hitting the bar from a free kick as Wolves began to wobble.
Keith Lowe came close to taking full advantage before the keeper recovered to tip the ball over the bar in a nervy period for Wolves, Lee finding the side netting as the game drew to a close but 1-0 it remained despite the Robins best efforts to punish the profligacy of their opponents.
