With the Wolves squad now back in for pre-season training, Stale Solbakken has told the club's official website that he will be a hands-on boss in all on- field matters. "I like to be out on the training pitch. I'll be out on the training pitch every day, sometimes coaching, sometimes observing. When I build a team around me I also like people to take responsibility. It's not me sitting there thinking I know everything. When you have guys around you that have competence I think it's important to use that.", he said. Turning his attention to the players, he added "I like to know the players I work with a little bit as people as well. I like to have them close to me but also have the professional distance that you want between a manager and the players. I like to feel I know them a little bit because then I can get the last five to 10 per cent out of them. It's about having a good relationship with the players without being a friend.".
Rounding things off with a summary of his first day's training with his charges, he compared it to a ' back to school' feeling- "It was good, but also it's a little bit frightening when there are two new people standing there, so we had a short meeting before training to get rid of that, so now the players know that during the trip to Ireland and when that's over, they will all have had their chat with the management and they can have some time now to prepare themselves for that. If they want to ask questions or if they want to have a more concrete conversation - on whatever that should be about - if someone wants to know maybe their position a little bit more, if someone wants to just have it (a conversation) done, they're free to do that."
