A Pompey side made up of members of the development squad and trialists lost 2-1 at Salisbury in the club's final pre-seson friendly. Defender Alex Grant was in action early on to keep it goalless while Kieran Djilali wasted Pompey's best effort with a weak shot at the home stopper. Trialist keeper Jordan Santiago made an excellent save to turn a long-range shot around his post and for a while Pompey gave as good as they got. Dan Thompson, Djilali, Jack Compton, Andy Higgins and George Colson all tried their luck without success and it was the Wiltshire side who took the lead on 39 minutes through a neat finish by Scott Sinclair. City got a killer second minutes later when Sinclair picked out McPhee, who scored from close range. After the break, Santiago made a couple of good saves to keep Pompey in it - before Thompson was denied by a sharp save on 79 minutes. A handball in the box gave the youthful visitors a way back into it with 10 minutes to go and Jack Compton, back at the club on trial, sent Scott the wrong way. It might have got better for Pompey but a Higgins shot came back off a post and then Djilali shot wide when well-placed. Pompey: Santiago; Magri, Ifil, Grant, Butler; Compton, Colson, Wallace, Djilali; Higgins, D.Thompson. Subs not used: Warren, Maloney.
