Erik Huseklepp says he has enjoyed playing for Pompey - and may well continue to wear the royal blue in the new season.

That may not be good news for Trevor Birch, who is desperately trying to reduce the club's wage bill to make a takeover viable, but the Norwegian says he still has two years of his contract left and, as things stand, intends to see them out.

He told The News: ‘I don’t regret coming to Portsmouth. You could never see what has happened coming. I had a good six months and then had to go because of the financial side of things.

‘But I really enjoyed my time at the club. It’s sad. It’s a great club with fantastic fans. Unfortunately things happened and it was sad to see. As things stand, I still plan to enjoy my time here because I will be back for next season.

‘I’m still under contract. It says two more years, so I have to stick to that unless something else happens. You never know but I’m sticking to my contract as things stand.

‘What I’ve learnt is things can change quickly in football. That’s the most important thing I’ve picked up from being here. We were on a positive run and then administration happened. It ruined the season.

‘We could have had a very good second half of the season otherwise. The fans are fantastic and have always been good to me, though. It’s important to me that they know I appreciate that.

‘It was always fun to play at Fratton Park and when we played away from home the fans will always show up in numbers. They don’t deserve what has happened. The fans deserve to have stability around them.’

Birch is now just over a week away from a creditors' meeting where he will put Portpin's CVA proposals to them. He may also have the PST bid on the table by then.
