He also reaffirmed Mr Al Fahim's determination to make Pompey one of the great clubs of English football once again, but stressed this would take time.

Mr Gabara described the project as "a medium to long-term effort. It will not happen overnight" and he was adamant that Mr Al Fahim has the financial backing to achieve this aim, an assertion that should go a long way to calming fears over the future.

While he would not be drawn on specific questions of player's arriving at the club, he reiterated Mr Al Fahim's belief the club will remain in the Premier League this season, adding "Sulaiman Al Fahim has every confidence in this great Club."
